I was recently in the shipyard and saw a large motoryacht that had above the name board a large circle with a letter J over a 5. Looked like: J -- 5 Does anyone know what it means?
The yachts name could have been a clue perhaps? All I can think of is the J-class no 5, Ranger. The owner has a large motor-sailer, Georgia...?
The yacht was a large Trinity, I don't recall the name. The symbol was actually at the base of the radar arch above the name board. There were some racing sailboats in the yard at the same time, maybe it was the mother ship to one of them.
She is the tender to Ranger, we were just next to them in BVI's and in St. Thomas. Her name is Vita. The sign is for the J boats and the number is for her sail number.
That's the one Has anyone seen this sort of thing before? Is it common to have the sail number of a racing yacht on the mothership?
You can see it also on "Bystander" the mother ship of the J-class "Velsheda". http://www.yachtforums.com/bystander JFA Yachts
Her number is JK7 and you can see a PDF of her and her interior if you wish. http://www.superyachtsociety.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=finalists.list
