I'm looking at a boat with 1985 671 TI Covington DDs...are parts still around? Or is it a problem?

Please educate me on this. Thanks.

    Covington is no more.
That is all the bad news.

It's just a souped up Detroit.
The good news, all is serviceable thru a better DD shop.
Some water tubes were made of steel. A good glass tech can make new ones from fiberglass tubes and epoxy like I did for one customer.
The higher horsepower injectors and turbo are serviceable.
Never trade the injectors in, always have DD injectors rebuilt, matched and pop by a good ole fashioned injector shop.

Now, the important issues, what clutches are bolted on?
    What Generator on board?

Westerbeke gen, they are good units , I believe.

Not sure what the transmissions are. It was an informal short visit.... Gotta sell the boat I have first , Ya know?

I knew you would chime in . Thank you, Capt Ralph.

My shop would be J&T here in New Jersey....perhaps I would need to find another shop? Not many in the Philadelphia area...that I know of.

If you like your J&T shop. They can work on Covingtons.

Clutches are important. Usually on the Covington 671TIB, you should find some nice TD506's.
Good forgiving clutch as the 71's.

I'm not a Worst-er-break fan. Mitsubishi is a fair engine. I do not like their heat exchangers.
However, others in YF really like them.

    Ok thanks for the info.

I have TD 503 or 506? On my J&T 471s which keep on , keepn' on. That's good to know. They have been just great.

I agree on the Gen, when it goes I would install a Phasor , by myself, like I have on my last two boats. They are affordable , good units. Kubota main and marathon generator....as you probably well know.

    We may need to open a new thread on gen-sets but not here;
There is a reason Phasors are affordable.
