Found a couple of quick references to it in the search, but didn't really answer my question so I thought I'd start a thread on it to gather any more info. Looking for input, feedback, experiences, comments, etc. on Chub Cay Marina. (in the Berry Islands / Bahamas) First hand experiences from anyone who has stopped over there, provisioned, fueled up, tied up, spent any time there, etc. Would appreciate any feedback. I understand it's a somewhat new marina which will support up to 200' in length, however is mostly sport fishing boats and smaller boats (40 to 60ish feet). Much Thanks- ~PB
Stopped there a couple of times this winter. Nice docks plenty of water coming in. Expensive fuel though, almost a dollars more than Nassau dockage is $3 a foot... So unless we have guests who who really want to go ashore I just anchor our (weather permitting) no provisioning available besides very basic stuff since I m not into fishing i prefer stopping at great harbour cay at north end ofvthe berrys. A few extra miles from Miami when heading to Nassau and exumas, probably same distance whencoming out of FTL and north. Nicer island, beaches, etc. Although a little less water (8' mlw)
I've stopped there......Docks are nice newish concrete floaters, nice marina, nice pool and not much else. I heard it is in recievership. Whether or not you can get fuel there is always a question and it's expensive as stated earlier and usually rationed to 200 gallons a person per day.......It's also a question as to whether or not the restaurant will be open. As for provisions, a local 7-11 in the states has more stuff. Dockage is also pricey......But Chub has no drawing card except good fishing.
Old days being pre-developers coming in and building on the island, resort, new marina, etc.? (granted, it's not complete / in troubled times). Circa 2004 I'm curious what kind of potential it would have with other marinas in the area if fuel prices were in line, dock pricing in line, desirable location, services, and so on. It's kind of a shame seeing it in the shape that it's in, considering the potential it could have. Would you agree?
well there aren't any other marinas in the area. The closest are Nassau or great harbor cay in the northern berrys so you really can't compare it to anything else. I don't fish but in think that s the big attraction for most of their customers. The rest are transients stopping on the way to and from NAS. It s pretty nice if you like modern new marinas, me I prefer the more rustic laid back places like Staniel... But it is in very good shape so not sure what you mean by your last comment
The shape that it's in, being that it's currently in receivership and no real defined or certain future. Obviously the current investors on the island are out, and someone would need to come pick up where they left off to complete the project and make it a well known marina, desirable to many.
