Anyone else have issues with the windows leaking? We took each one out and used 4200 to reseal and thought that would have fixed the leak issue but with all the rain in NJ lately we noticed the rear 2 windows are still leaking! Any suggestions? Thanks
Correction - the year is 1995 Anyone else have the same issue on carver mariner 330 for 1995 model year?
Just about any 18 year old boat is going to have leaking windows. The sealant used to install the windows is past it's normal lifespan. Most people pull them out and re-seal them.....Sikaflex is usually what is used.
windows We ripped them out, cleaned them off, and resealed them with 4200 and the back ones are still leaking.
Just a follow up. Our 92 Carver has developed leaking windows. I think it is probably the screw holes in the tracks. Was going to try to reveal with sikoflex and see if that fixes the issue. Really not looking forward to full window removal.... Any thoughts or suggestions welcomed.
The boat is 23 years old and so is the butyl they used to seal your windows, just remove the entire window and re-bed it or you'll never get it to stop leaking.
Not horrible, just hard labor. Remove the exterior frame if it has one. Carefully drive plastic or wood wedges in and saw away at the butyl with razor knives, keep moving wedge further away till all of the butyl is cut and window comes out, clean window and boat side thoroughly with razor blades and acetone or solvent, paint the sykaflex primer on, next day seal with sykaflex, following day fill in the seam with other type of sykaflex......you may get lucky and the window might just about fall out if the butyl is as old and brittle as it is.
Yes our salon windows have an aluminum frame with sliding glass panels. It appears that the frames are just held with a few screws. Heading down to the harbour tomorrow so will scope it out and see how it goes. Thanks for the advice much appreciated.
Was out this weekend. Used the deck wash with my wife on the inside. The only place leaking appears to be the forward most seam on the salon window. I taped themoff and ran a bead of sikoflex. Here's hoping it is the fix.
I have a 1995 Carver Santego 380 and the aft Port window leaks way in the rear. Anyone else with this boat problem? Checked outside during the 2" soaking rain here Saturday and did not see any obvious sources.
