Quote from NPR; It's turned out to be a lot more than just a three-hour tour. For passengers aboard the Carnival Triumph, a four day pleasure cruise has turned into a nightmare. The ship lost power in the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday and is being slowly towed to port in Alabama. The company says it's working to ensure safety and passenger comfort. But on board, passengers say toilets aren't working, food is scarce and conditions are horrible. The Carnival cruise ship Triumph will arrive at Mobile's port late Thursday night, as the job of towing the stricken 100,000-ton ship hundreds of miles across the Gulf of Mexico has taken longer than expected. The ship's 3,143 passengers have coped with sewage problems and a lack of ventilation, after it was crippled by an engine room fire Sunday.
They may have discovered a new form of life on the ship that thrived on all the sewage. It will take a while to get it ready for another cruise. Cleaning up the lower decks especially will be a nightmare.
There was a similar plight last year. If I recall, ER fire, cruise ship drifting, Tow comes out and SALVAGES the liner? Anybody remember the details? Ship scrapped? Really a salvage? Back to this tow, I think the cruise company is dispatching the towing ships. I do wonder why a APU or some trash pumps were not helo dropped on deck.
