Hello everyone. I am new here so please forgive me if I'm in wrong area posting my question. I am going to be a first time buyer of a smaller yacht in the 35 to 38' range. I am trying to find out what type of quality the Californian has. The one I am looking at is a "84" 38'aft cabin. Are these boats constructed well or should I stay away from it all together? Could anyone tell me good & bad points? Maybe point me to where I can find out more about these boats. Thank you. Guy

They were good quality boats until about 1989 when the company was sold by the Marshall family and production was moved from Tustin, CA to Wilmington, NC. Quality suffered and the infamous luxury tax did them in.

I ran a 1984 45' from Ft. Laud to New Orleans, it was pretty well built and ran well.......overall quality was considered to be good on them.
