I don't know if anyone here is following the Dakar, but this year - aside from the usual collection of mad machinery - they are running a Dakar Classic regularity rally alongside the main show.... a class filled with vintage hardware ranging from the Mitsubishi Pajeros and Monteros, Mercedes G-320s, old Land Rovers... all the way up to the iconic Rothmans Porsche 953 4x4!

Just catching a glimpse of that lifted Porsche is enough to make my day!

I didn't catch that, I would have loved to see it, I will have to get a glipse on the 'ol YouTube I guess.
Before our local automotive museum The World of Speed in Wilsonville, OR shut down during our current pandemic shut downs and will not come back, I got to see this First Place winner in the Vintage class at Baja.

The Classics don't get a huge amount of coverage, but there's a daily recap video for each stage on the Dakar Youtube channel.

A peculiarly specific trend to start 2021: Offroad Porsches!

Aside from the period correct Dakar 911 we've also had Straat's Adventure Porsche and subsequently Singer's insane restomod 959.

The good old days Lars, when both of us were still young and crispy, now we are just "and" :p.

I love roof racks on sportscars... it's a great look.

Fine looking car, I probably could not fit in it.
Glad there are no roof racks there.

This is the car I had the most fun with. The last PMS sealed RSR crate motor, air jacks, fuel cell, solid motor mounts, racing fly wheel, 2450# for most racing and weight added for a few classes. Many wins at Watkins Glen and VIR. Sebring was never kind to us.

I’m sure the Singer is a beast, I’ll roll with the Straat Adventures 911

Same here. The Singer is basically a race vehicle... not a daily. The Straat would be perfect I think. I'm digging the "all-terrain sportscar" idea in general (Ariel Noman, anyone?).

I've come to realize that perfect roads are so few and far between (especially around here) that exotic sportscars are wasted if you don't spend a lot of time on a track. I'd rather drive something that can take abuse, potholes, broken pavement, etc. but still be engaging to drive.

What years were you racing that? I started spending more time at races in the very late 90s... Speedvision World Challenge era, some Motorola Cup / Grand Am series too.

I'm not sure how I haven't posted pictures of my cars in here... This is Rachel. 69 Camaro. Currently nearing completion some mods, including new suspension, new tires/wheels, and a brand new 540 Big Block build.
