Thinking of starting in May in Palma de Majorca and slowly cruising around the Med going to Spain, South of France, St Tropez, Cannes, Nice, Monaco and then the coast of Italy. Following summer doing Croatia and the Greek islands. Is it possible to do most of the trip with anchoring out? Some of the Marinas are either impossible to get space or very expensive. Thoughts? Thanking you in advance.

You can anchor out in a lot of places, you just need to be aware of any local requirements and or restrictions that apply.

For Croatia at least you can find a list of mooring fields here. A nice overlay over google maps showing mooring fields with additional information can be found here.

A list of the croation ministery with all mooring fields can be found here. Look out for "NAUTICAL ANCHORAGES" in the middle of the page.

In Italy we often stayed at the city quais, which are mostly free e.g. Trieste (directly in front of hotel Excelsior Palace) and actually also Venice (at least for 6 hours!)

Our boat was a 50ft sailing yacht.

In the Balearics, with the exception of the NW coast of Mallorca, there are lots of convenient anchorages.

Many anchorages in Croatia as well.
