George, did anyone ever reply to you?

The simplest way to remove an engine of this type is to disassemble it in place: A lumber A-frame can be used to lift the engine and gear out of the bilge, or the manifolds, water pump, timing cover and heads could be removed in place for reduced A-frame capacity

Now the much smaller engine block can be slid up out the aft door on planks.

The bare block and crank assem. weighs approx. 220#, block only about 150#.

Then reassemble the renewed engine parts back in place, either in the salon or in the bilge.

Tear down the SBC to short block and slide it up, out the back. The smaller it is, the easier it is.

If it's a warrantied engine going in, the (re-)mfg may not allow it down to less than the long block (heads and tin on).
At least then it's down hill..:rolleyes:

Most better yards have a fork-lift with a boom extersion that should be able to reach rite in the aft door and pick up / lower in a long block.
Clutch, manifolds with all hang on stuff off of course.

Some pictures could be helpful, at least fun. Hard to remember what a 26 year old gas boat looked like nor how it was laid out.

thank you all for the reply's we sent it to a mechanic in June and it still sits waiting to be worked on at this point we are looking for another boat and will probably take the loss and sell as is with the new engine still in the crate. We lost the entire boating season and am kinda pissed at the marina for the no call no show
