My 1984 38 SF has water leaking in slowly from the area of the stb shaft through hull. I have mechanical seals and they are not leaking. I used a mirror to try to see into the small compartment from which the water from entering, but I could not get a really good look. I then used a remote tv camera and the result was not much better. I can see there is water entering the boat, it is not coming through the seals, but cannot see an entry point.

There is a strut that supports the shaft just after it exits the hull. After hauling, I examined the outside of the hull and there are no obvious cracks or holes. The strut is fastened to the hull bottom with four big screws, but the nuts on them are almost impossible to reach. I fear these screw holes may be leaking and require removal, sealing, and replacement.

Has anyone ever run into this?

    Leaking Bertram

If the boat is still out of the water, put some water down the inside with a red plumbers dye in it ..might show up where the leak is.
