Hatteras Enjoys Success at Ft. Lauderdale Show...

Despite Hurricane Wilma, Yacht Sales Proceed at Surprisingly Fast Pace

NEW BERN, N.C., Nov. 10, 2005 – Hatteras Yachts enjoyed an outstanding Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show despite the best efforts of Hurricane Wilma. Facing reduced participation and logistical hurdles caused by the storm, Hatteras actually sold more boats at this Fort Lauderdale show than it did last year.

“The results of the show were better than we could have possibly imagined,” said Mark Harakal, Hatteras president. “While the date change did result in significantly less boat show traffic, we’re happy to report that Hatteras customers are resilient. They came out in force to see the debut of our new 64 Convertible, and helped make the Hatteras display the talk of the show.”

Jan Boone, vice president of sales, summarized the show as successful both in the present and the future. “We sold boats in all stages of completion, including stock boats that are out in dealer inventory, a few vessels already in progress here at the plant, and many new orders that will add to our already impressive backlog,” Boone said. “It is also encouraging to note that these sales span our entire product line. We sold multiple units of the 64 and 80 Motor Yachts, as well as at least one of every convertible from 50 to 77 feet. Our new 64 Convertible was especially well received.”

Harakal attributes the success of the show to a mixture of good products and good people. “Clearly, we’re in a good position with many new products coming to the marketplace in a short amount of time, thanks to the investments that Brunswick has made into our portfolio,” Harakal said. “The 64Convertible is the latest in a line of innovative convertibles and motoryachts that have generated our record backlog that now reaches well into 2007. But we also owe quite a debt of gratitude to the team that works behind the scenes to make it all possible, from the craftsmen who build the boats to the crew who sets up the display, to the dealers who travel from all over the world to represent our boats. To achieve this success in such a time of adversity speaks volumes about the people of Hatteras.”
