Hello Everyone, I own a 2000 350 Mariner and I am experiencing an issue that I am having trouble resolving. Earlier this year both my VHF Radio and my Stereo Sound system stopped working and I am not an electrician or even that mechanically inclined but I am told this could be a possible ground issue. I have tried to get my local Carver Dealer out to my boat to look further into the issue, but they don't seem that interested, so I was hoping that someone could help me determine if there is a quick way to determine if indeed this is the case. The VHF is installed on the bridge and I have confirmed that the fuse is intact and when a volt meter is attached, is has a faint glow. The Radio in the salon exhibits the same results. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve
Putting a meter on it would be a good idea, but 1st take a look at your grounding plate in the bilge. I suspect you'll find corrosion or a broken connection. Also, check the condition and charge of your house batteries. It could just be time to change them or to clean the cables. You're probably getting low voltage at other items as well, but it's just not as noticable. Be careful using DC fridge, etc. as you'll be wearing on it.
