1996 Carver Santego - Clarion remote at helm not working.

We have a remote control for the Clarion Stereo mounted at the helm. The remote is the type (RCB-061) that can be removed from the helm remote station and used independently to control the stereo when in the salon. The remote seems to work fine in the salon (if the remote multi pin cable is removed from the back of the stereo. However; if you plug the remote milti pin cable into the back of the stereo and plug the remote into the remote station on the helm, the remote does not work :-(
We did have it working once this weekend, but no matter what we do now, we can't get it working. We have replaced the battery in the remote and reseated all the cables.
Does anyone have any idea where I can purchase the remote station that mounts at the helm??? There is a small circuit board in the remote station that seems to be "replaceable"???
