does anybody know what that drain or vent is located aft of the salon windows on both sides of the house? They are located on the exterior of the house, about 3 feet up from the gunnel.
If they are the same as an older Egg, I believe those are the drain holes for the window rails. From time to time it's a good idea to check them to make certain they drain freely.
dont know what you mean by window rails, do you mean gutters for rain? The holes i am wondering about are aft of the window, about 1/2 way up the house wall. Above the bottom of the window.
about Time I was taking a guess based on my old Egg. Maybe someone with a 46 can enlighten both of us. On my Egg, the window extended behind the house side and water would naturally pitch back into that area. At that rear end of the mounting rail they simply drilled about a 5/8 hole and covered it with a small clam shell louver to evacute the water. If you have the chance, shine a light in that direction from the outside and see what's there.
Hi About Time - Can you post a photo of these drains/vents? I have a 1976 42' and I don't have drains/vents in this location BUT I do have a small round place that has been filled in with thickened resin and painted over. They're in the same general location as you describe and about the size of a half dollar. Could these have been drains/vents like yours? I have wondered about this from time to time myself...
Hi About time, I've got an 80, 46 that has the holes like yours. Mine Does have sliding windows and the holes/vents are for drainage as Beau suggested. Maybe your windows were not always embedded, but at one time they were sliders. I did not think Post embedded windows until much later, like the 90's or so.
Thank you Beau, and chesapeake46, I gather from what the both of you have said that my 46 once had sliding windows, the position of the hole would make sense for drainage if the window extended beyond the side of the house on the inside. Island runner my vents have also been filled in and painted, probably when the windows were replaced. By the way my hull# number is 023, 1980 46' I wonder how many boats a year post built in 1980?
Abouttime, what is your layout inside ? Mine, I believe is hull # 21 from 1980. 410 hp 671's Onan 7.5 Kw genny
chesapeake46, I am going to the Dania marine flea market this weekend, will post pictures when I get back.
