I see quite a bit fur flying over the Cape Horn 81 and more specifically MY "Write of Passage". I was the project engineer for that build and spent about 18 months on it. I was the one that took her from a 75' trawler to the current 81'. If anyone has any questions as to what really transpired during her construction, I would be glad to tell of all the design changes on her and why they were all made. Some very interesting.

Greetings, was wondering if any fellow CH'ers could tell me the manufacturer of the heat exchanger in this photo. (aka Cowboy: CH65/74). I am looking to do a coolant exchange (my last analysis was quite dilute, yes i am concerned about a leak too). I am hoping there is a drain plug in the bottom to do an "in water" exchange of coolant should the system survive a pressure test. My thought was to connect a hose to the heat exchanger (diver) and pump out from below. (this is a survey photo...

I spent some time studying the Cape Horn steel and the Nordhavn fiberglass yachts. I came to the conclusion that a new boat was not in the cards. So, my research settled down to considering the used ones in the range of 50-65 feet. I will briefly summarize my conclusions.

Over the course of several years I talked to various owners and operators of both manufactures. I prefer steel for it’s safety, reparability and near indestructibility. The Cape Horn boats have only about 15 boats total...
