What should I look for in an ocean going trawler?

    "This bear" is the name of the yacht?

    Also, is fairing done with a fairing compound of some sort or is it done with hammers and lots of work? I've done some work on wooden boats (I work on a wooden boat) which is why I want steel.

    Fairing is typically done with fairing compound. Steel is fine, though it has its own issues, no building material is perfect, though 90/10 CuNi is about as close as it gets. Costs more to build in, but if you plan to keep the boat 12 years or more, it pays itself off in reduced maint and no bottom paint.

    I think there are a couple of boats over on the east side of the Homer harbor that might fit your needs with some refit work.
    Pretty sure they are cold weather capable.

    Physically seeing big boats is less helpful than you'd think... and I work out of a lodge so I don't really know anyone with a big boat... the cold I can handle however, so I'm set in that regard.
