Not only do I get a strange high-pitched whine from the passenger seat, but I generally end up with a bruised/numb left arm from running 100+. I've found the easiest resolution is decreasing the load creating an unbalanced situation biased on the starboard side - leaving the ballast on the dock, enjoying sea breezes.

Back in '03 we had a wedding to get to. Wife and sister in law were late getting ready, so I was pushing it a bit on the way there. Theres a stretch of road involved that has five roundabouts in it (dont know what these are called stateside, but in case of doubt they are circular, one-way junctions with no stop signs). I took each roundabout almost as if they were straight, hitting second turbo on the exit of each...I wasn't aware of any protestations from the ladies, but I do remember a slight intake of Chianti laden breath through two pairs of gorgeous cherry red, slightly open lips. Just after the last roundabout and a clear straight road ahead, my wife told me to stop, turn around and go back home. She had quite literally developed the need for a change of attire.
We were therefore, even more late and so I took the same roundabouts on the way back to our house with a tad more vigour still. Unfortunately we then had a patching pair...sister in law, who had rode out the journey so far with resolve that Boudicca herself would have been proud of, finally succumbed. The final journey to the venue was sedate shall we say, but we still caught the speeches. I don't think we have been late for anything since.

In NY we talk a little funny. We call them roundabouts.:D (Sometimes we do call them traffic circles also).

They had one on route 4 here in Maryland between Annapolis and Deale but now have added several more on that route. They also are putting some in on roads in southern Maryland. I have had experience with them in England and the Middle East but most people around here don't have much experience with them and are not sure what to do when they get into them. I won't suggest your resolution to the problem here in the states, you'd probably get into a serious accident since most people don't realize the person in the roundabout has the right of way. Of course I drive based on the realization that most people think they have the right of way no matter what and prefer to defer instead of getting into an accident.

I've had that same high pitch sound in my car, on the boat, and also had the sore arm. Understand completely.

    Not all Italian girls are.....

as flaky and neurotic as that Italian woman was, truly. I was showing off to one in a 427 Corvette Stingray once, and when I floored it in 2nd gear, she actually leveraged herself up in her seat so she could look at the speedo to see how fast we were going. I think she was bored.....

I didn't even bother calling her back. Her father and brothers must have raised her on Ferraris!

    Uppity *****........

My wife doesn't usually smile and laugh when I drive like that. Probably because I do it on the interstate and not a track.
