    Hello everyone,

    I have over 8 years of experience but I never really found myself without a job, so I am new to the search online for jobs.

    I am looking for advise on where to go and what to do?

    Hello Henning,

    Thank you for message.
    What do I do?
    Well I am go site by site that have yacht jobs (captain jobs) but I don't find that many jobs nor that many sites that are well done.

    Do you have a few to recommend me?

    I did, crewunlimited, crewnetwork, jf-recruiting, yachtloop, luxyachts, and yotcru.

    I have a 500 tons Coast Guard license (2002).

    In the last 7 years working yachts (worked commercial for over 15 years prior), outside of word of mouth/personal reference, I've picked up most my work off of findacrew.net. I've picked up one gig from a crew agent, and that was Sportable Crew. ************ may also be useful.

    Looking for a captain job

    Thank you for your notes, yes work of mouth is usually the best.

    I am still looking and searching and hope this will come to an end soon.
    I have even started to apply for some engineer positions.

    If you come across a Captain position please let me know.

    I have posted my infos with the Dockwalk like you said and Triton, also Crew Unlimited.

    Maybe a new job, got a positive interview

    I wanted to thank you all for your help.
    I was contacted today and did a phone interview for a 130' Westsport starting by the end of the month.
    The guy (The owner's agent) said that he found me on yachtloop.com but he had waited to contact me because my resume was not well written.

    So if you have some tips about how can I write the best resume I am interested. I am use to hire crew but I go by the feeling lesser the resume so I never really pay attention to it.

    None of the agencies that I applied to said anything nor gave me guidelines to help or advise me.

    My guess is that English is a second language? You may want to have someone help edit your resume so that it reads well in the English language (assuming you're targeting English speaking owners).

    Write a Resume the best way possible

    Thanks for your advise on the english, but it is my first language.
    I can also speak a bit of german since my family was from there and that might explain my "many" mistakes in typing here.
    But no, my resume is written in correct english.

    I think more in terms of layout/organization between my experience, certificates, etc... like add a photo or not on the top right corner, etc...

    Over the past 8 years I only worked for 3 owners so I have those only 3 experiences even so one is 5 years, 6 months, and the last one 2.5 years.

    Should I not mention that 6 months one that was so bad that I had to leave?

    My two cents:
    Always include a photo, your age, and marital status at the top.
    Don't omit anything, no matter how short-term, because those holes in your resume may come back to haunt you; I don't usually start with listed references, but most often call on friends who have some connection with the boats on which the candidate has worked. There are many times that I've learned about things which aren't on a resume, and that leads me to speculate why they've omitted them.
    Once again- I would also go to a professional resume service to help get it in order. I'm not trying to be rude, but the number of typo's in your posts here suggest that writing isn't your strong suit. A poorly written resume (particularly one with spelling and grammatical errors) will often get passed to the bottom of the pile.
    In the current economy I believe that jobs are more scarce, so employers are able to be more selective with their candidates than in years past.

    Have the same problem now. Just Internet Crew Agencys are 30 where I check in every day, plus Managements and calls at single crew agents. Sailed around 17 years and I am holding a master class 1 unlimited. 5 years ago I quit in the merchant navy and started to work on yachts. Think this was a big mistake now. With this crisis the owners and managements of yachts do not feel comitment to theire Crew and they just decide to lay theire boats up for the winter or after years contract to offer half salary in the winter without notice. Now I am looking since for months for a Yacht and started to look at merchant ships again. After 5 years on yachts they are not really interested on large Cargo Vessels or Cruise Liners. So just throw my career away 5 years ago it feels like.
