I hear that the US East Coast is being battered by ‘Snowmagedon’! Our thoughts and prayers are with all YF members who are struggling with the bad weather at the moment.
Hi David, I'm having a little titter here in mostly warm Guernsey. This time last year, I took Monday morning off work to recover from watching the Superbowl (4.30am finish here in the UK). I opened the window and there was 2 inches of snow. All hell had let loose on the roads with little old ladies punting their Hondas onto the beachs. Our neigbour island of Jersey, all 8 miles away had no snow at all. The last I heard was that Washington was going to get TWO AND A HALF FEET of snow tonight. Maybe you Eastcoasters can sell it all to Vancouver for the Olympics, they seem to be needing it.
The storm is strong, but real contained between northern Virginia and south Jersey. Up here it's a beautiful winter day with just a dusting of snow, and a fire burning in the hearth. . I just heard that very thing suggested on a news broadcast.
Nasty day here in Toms River. Snow was blowing sideways all day. Maybe a foot total but snow drifts are 2-3ft. Heading NORTH tomorrow to get away from the snow
A few years back I told the wife that she'd have to pick up a shovel to help since I'd hit heart attack age. The following winter I suggested we get a blower. Her response: 'Spend as much as you want. Bigger the better'. She still gets to shovel the deck. Ain't women's lib grand!
Yesterday they were talking blizzard, 12" to 18" w/ 50mph winds coming in at about 2300 tonight. This morning they started back peddling, saying winter storm, 8" to 12" but less if the rain/sleet mix moves in and not starting until 0600 tomorrow with winds around 30mph. Weather-people are near useless; more interested in panic and headlines than weather. Long Island has an interesting effect on storms. With the Sound above us, the ocean below and the Gulf Stream off shore we tend to push the worst of storms north & south of us. There's even a big difference between the north & south shores (north tends to get more snow) even though they're only a few miles apart. So my snowblower is ready; as is my swimsuit.
They werent really saying anything till last night. I put my blower away a couple of weeks ago when we had that warm spell. I thought it might encourage an early spring oh well.
The NY & LI stations were all over it since yesterday morning. I keep my snowblower ready til mid-April and my Harley ready all year. Today I'll be on the Harley; tomorrow...We'll see.
Nope, just a guy who's always prepared for fun or trouble. May have a bit of both over the next 48 hours.
