I asked for this several days ago, no response. But we did see a cool rough water video!

Ahhhh Laphroaig, that smokey taste is perfect on a cold night like we have been having here.

I think you might want to look at a book on ocean towing and see where a tow line spends its time at sea.

Good morning gentlemen. Perhaps there may be some truth to the theory put forth on how the yacht tumbled about while on the bottom by tropical storm force currents for weeks before the photos were taken. Currents so violent that the helm chairs and their lower cushions are completely undisturbed.

The photo of the helm chairs would make be great material for the helm chair manufacturers next ad campaign.

I now find this thread better than ANY show on television.

    Great stuff.

This company has a piss-poor PR department, and non-statements such as this are doing harm to the company's reputation. Mr. Myers, hire yourself a professional.

A laboratory match says what, that black interlux paint of this paint code was on the buoy, how many boats have been painted with that paint? You're still hinging your argument on that bit of silliness?

At this point, I would recommend a larger firm with some transportation industry experience, because you wouldn't want to hear my recommendations to your face.

As a personal anecdote, my family owned a 1955 64' plywood Huckins for years. The magnetic autopilot locked onto a large sea buoy with which we collided at about 16-17 knots. That punched a 4' hole in the bow, and with pumps we made it back into Virginia Beach. That boat also survived a full bow swamping at 18 knots, when a submarine broached ahead of us off Groton. If an antiquated bit of worm food like that can stay together in more extreme circumstances, why on earth would anyone "remain totally confident in [y]our product" if a 250# plastic buoy can set off a chain of events that sink a space-age wonder of modern materials?

As I am sure you and yours are keeping tabs on this site and this thread, please accept these as my questions I have not hesitated to ask. As I have asked them publicly, I hope you will demonstrate the confidence to answer them publicly.

It would be a shameless plug if I was selling something. I am not. After 740+ very interesting, well meaning posts, the thread quickly degraded over the past week, mostly by some new members. We have reached a point where the thread should be locked. I thought the introduction of a new review would be something positive to move on to.

To state we are using Bertram’s catastrophic failures to drive traffic is very poor conjecture. We don’t need sinking boats to drive traffic. People come to YF based on keyword searches to obtain information on buying yachts. Over 14,000 lines of proprietary code underlie this website, putting us on top of 30,000 yachting related keywords, resulting in 250,000 readers monthly. Our reviews, almost 150 of them, drive the majority of this traffic.

I didn’t post the original delamination pictures from last year. Frankly, I didn’t want to post the pictures of the 630 Bertram sinking because these types of events on forums have a tendency to attract a less desirable element. We have a very well-informed group of active members who make YF a quality content website. This thread, along with some of the new members it has attracted, has only served to degrade the professionalism here.

I think the time has come to lock the thread.

Sir, please don't take offense at my statement, I was just stating an opinion.

Well said, and your bolded line may be perhaps the only solid conclusion reached in this thread.

    ok..

yes I am a new member

I signed in to specifically read this thread, but have found the site a great resource

I grew up and still live in the Bert 'hood..

my family has directly/indirectly owned Bert's since '77

I have worked on and around them for 35 years.. always thought they were the industry mainstay... apparently not, lately...

with that said, in my 40+ years of boating this is the most intriguing situation I have followed

still wondering how the ENTIRE transom cleanly (almost sawcut) disappeared, forget the rest of the damage...

    hopefully the thread continues

Regarding the statement by Bertram that there was a significant tropical storm with high winds .... I wonder if they have bothered to look at the buoy data for that area? The strongest winds were 21 m/s for a short period in the early morning of Nov 12 and the highest wave was 5.30m a couple of hours later. The weather was delightful for the rest of the month before the pictures were taken.

Hardly bottom churning events in 80 feet of water.

But was it enough to toss hypothetical subway cars, submarine chasers, and bridge debris end over end?

With all due respect, sir. For the last several pages, I've been the one newbie here really curious about the transom, and was able to get several ideas about that, including the one that finally satisfied my own thirst for knowlege (YMMV) just very recently. Try reading the last pages through, I am sure you will find the best this thread (and respected contributors) have to offer on the matter.

Most of the bottom there is sand, not reef. It's not going to puncture the bottom, it's just going to produce impacts. Remember that the vessel when sank was most likely within 1000lbs of bouyancy from the fuel tanks with all the heavy stuff aft of the LCB so as the surge and current jostle it around, it's going to bounce off the corner of the transom to hull sides/bottom.

Just woke up, hence the late reply...2 a.m this end of the world. At least you got to enjoy a couple of bottles. Someday we should compare the fine tastes of the now large range of good forum lubricants!

??? What would you expect them to say? Anything else would open them up to a storm of liability claims.
