I am getting a high voltage reading on my starboard engine. I have a '99 Sea Ray 400 Dancer with Mercruiser 380's in it. Any one have feedback on what might be causing this?

May airconditoner's also appear to have thermostat problems as they read te inside termperature as 10-15 degrees lower than it really is? Any ideas?

    Thanks!

re voltage, start by measuring the actual voltage at the battery terminal with the engine running over 1200rpm and see the gauge is accurate.

you didn't say how if the voltage, but if your'e also getting high voltage at the battery (over 15V on a 12v system), then teh alternator/regulator is suspect. Pull it and take it to a good alternator shop. Make sure they deal with marine stuff, you dont' want non ingition protected componenents on a gaser.

AC... make sure the outlet arent' blowing cold air directly on the Tstat...

The alternator on my 2000 7.4 Mercruiser Horizon 380hp has an integrated voltage regulator that went bad and wasn't available as a separate component.

The entire alternator / regulator needed to be replaced to correct the over-voltage problem.

Who said it wasn't available as a separate component? Did you take it to an auto electric shop or the dealership? I ask because I've never seen one of the GM/Delco, or any other alternator where you couldn't buy every component, including the regulator, individually and overhaul it.

    Oh.

When the regulators in my "862031T 65A Delco Non-servicable, replace complete assembly alternator assembly" failed, I contacted Delco, Mercruiser, many web sites and several local repair shops and got the same story, replace the whole assembly.

At some point these will fail again, so what is the regulator part number, who can I purchase this from or who can repair this non-servicable alternator?

I am over-regulated but have no regulator parts.

Google is your friend, you can save yourself much money.

Hint: look for manufacturer's part numbers. Mercruiser doesn't build engines or accessories.

I will take Henning's side on this issue, if a component is made of several parts, there are parts made for it and someone sells them.

    OK, it's Christmas: :)

Thanks for the info. google is a good place to look? Great advice.

When I searched and I called all I found was that the failed regulator was not available separately and that the alternator could only be replaced as a complete assembly.

So the D08-73 is the voltage regulator for the 862031T?

    Thank you.

If I were buying it I would confirm that with the supplier or manufacturer. I wouldn't take my word for it ... :D

This is the voltage regulator installed on my 862031T alternator.

The D08-73 on page 15 looks like a visual match.

    Good find!

    Thanks for the info.
