Saturday afternoon movie was 'Overboard' yet again. 'Ye Cats' looks no prettier with time.

Can anyone think of a movie where the boat is the Star?

'On Golden Pond' make me whince with the crunch.

My own nickname Fish comes from 'Captains Couragous' (Spencer Tracey pulls Freddie Bartholomew onto a schooner from the Banks and says "Oh, little feesh!")

There was one quite good movie I saw about the Americas Cup but cannot remember the name, any help with that?

Anyone who says 'Titanic' is banned for life.

So, any recommendations for a good one, or one to avoid?

    Fish :)

I don't know "worst" but a couple boats come to mind:
The two boats used in "You've got mail" (I think) Tom Hank's father on "Fox" and "Fox II". I don't recall what boats were used, but there were a couple scenes shot with them.

There was one other film which I lack the name of right now, and or the actors. It was a couple of scenes shot in the cockpit of a rather large sailboat, I want to say it was a 100' or so boat. I wish I could remember the name of the film.

Otherwise, not much comes to mind.
Titanic? Was that a movie? Never saw it :)

    *edit*
Just remembered another one. I wish my memory served me 1/10th as well as it does my Wife. It was a film about some psycho guy trying to kill a husband / wife on a sail boat. As always in Holywood, the bad guy dies. Woman actor, if I recall was quite a looker.

The Wedding Crashers - especially with knowing the Trumpy was later dashed on the rocks in Long Island Sound.

Does anyone know if she was ever rebuilt?

"Captain Ron" (Kurt Russell and some female)...didn't float my boat.
"Dead Calm" (Billy Zane / Nicole Kidman)...not bad actually.
"Open Water 2 / Adrift"....lost at sea in more ways than one.
"Moby Dick"....best film ever that had rigging in it.
"Horatio Hornblower" (Gregory Peck again)...great fun.

Are you thinking of "Wind" with Matthew Modine?

"wind" was the AC movie, with Matthew Modine and Jennifer Grey.

you've Got mail? there was a sailboat and a MY in there, i think that was shot at the North Cove in Manhattan

Hitch also has a final scene on a 100ish sailboat at the North Cove

Pshycho guy chasing wife while husband is on derelict was Dead Calm, with billy Zane, nicole Kidman and ... forgot the name of the actor playing the husband

Double Jeopardy starts on a 50ish saiboat, where wife wakes up, husband gone, blood eveywhere...

Message in a bottle has some nice classic sailboat scenes... (Kevin costner, paul newman, robin Wright)

More recently, Fool's Gold (Mat. McCaughnaughie(sp), Kate Hudson). not the best script in the world but entertaining. good scenery (shot down under though, not in the bahamas)

and who could forget the all time hollywood bomb... Kevin Costner's Waterworld?

    Pascal,

'Waterworld'. Arrgggg........Totally forgotten that one but I know one French boatbuilder who made a shedload of money makeing the trimaran prop boats and shipping them to Hawaii.

There was one James Bond where Tim Dalton parachuted onto a boat off the coast of Gibralter and another one with Sean Connery was on Nabila (ex Trump Princess) now Kingdom Kr, his toupe was almost as bad as Trump's in that one. :D

    J,
All the crew came out of it as numbnuts in the movie, the skipper was a fawning idiot, the chefs were twittering frenchmen and the steward Stewart was some kind of camp nutter.

'The Whole Nine Yards' is now playing, Bruce Willis is now shooting a guy off the aftdeck of a Roamer on the Lakes, talk about timeing.

Adnan Khashoggi's 'Nabila' was in the Bond movie 'Never Say Never Again' ...but my vote goes to 'Captain Ron'.

I saw this on TNT MANY years ago..

I Sailed to Tahiti With an All Girl Crew (1969)

    Review Summary
It's silliness on the high seas as two sneaky sailors race across the South Pacific in this fast-paced and campy comedy. The fun begins when one bets the other $20,000 that he, with an all girl crew, be the first to Tahiti in a sailboat race. The other, not to be outdone, has a few monkeyshines up his sleeve and actually wins the race. The beaten bettor then makes the claim, that he can beat the victor to the mainland using a crew comprised of baboons. That is too much to resist for the other and the race is on. ~

Pat Buttram - Pat; Arlene Charles; Fred Clark - Fred; Richard Denning - Commodore; Bebe Louie; Diane McBain - Liz; Gardner McKay - Gardner; Mary O'Brien; Jeanne Rainer; Edy Williams

I like it just beacause of Gardner McKay and the sailboats....Bought it at lostsilver.com Remember this was before satnav Huh, whats that???

I too saw that on TNT ages ago, there were some nice WESTPAC wooden boats used. Very pretty girls in big bikinis. Dreadful movie though.

According to Pascal's sighting last Fall, she is still sitting untouched on the hard at Brewers in Stamford. We represented her sale to the last owner under who's stewardship she went onto the rocks. Its very disheartening.

I saw "Fools Gold" last night on DVD. Good scenery, and a nice boat, but.... What an awful movie.

The best part was on the way to Tahiti, Gardner falls off the boat after going on watch. The girls come up to relieve the watch and hours later realize that he is not on the boat. They do a 180 and find him. Remarkable, and only in a fairey tale.
He was fairly popular in the early 60's with his TV series Adventures in Paradise and Jimmy Buffet mentions him is a song.
