We've been adding StarTron fuel Enzyme for about 2 years now and have been trouble free (with regard to gasoline problems).
Hope you didn't take offense. It's sometimes helpful to inject a bit of humor. Another disturbing piece of the article K1W1 brought up "Fuel tanks built of other materials are not immune to having a problem. Ethanol has a cleaning effect on tanks that releases fine metallic particles which will pass through most fuel filters. The dissolved metals will clog fuel injector nozzles and carburetors". You might consider having the tanks cleaned while they're empty. Of course that still leave the problems downstream which you'll deal with one by one. DK if non-blended fuel is available. Haven't run into it. The additives like Sta-bil might just be snake oil, but after a lawnmower's carb turned to a gummy mess in a couple of months I've been using it in all my machines that don't burn through a tank fast. So far, so good.
Thank you all for the education and humor. This thread reminded me of the time we were in Rhode Island for the Newport boat show, arrived at a gas station after a guy had placed the nozzle in the rod holder of his trailered boat and apparently then walked inside to make a purchase. Imagine his reaction when we took a moment to go inside to alert the fella. Not caring to know details, we quickly left to fuel elsewhere.
Been there done that. On my first boat a old 25 foot cutty cabin I stopped to get gas before setting out for a day of fishing. Started to pump the gas walked around the boat to make sure all the straps to the trailer were holding.Heard the sound of splashing looked in the boat and saw the gas covering the bottom of the boat. Had to drain the gas out of the boat luckly I stoped it fast less then 5 gal. Went to the local car wash and sprayed the boat out. Drove to the marina and started the engine luckly no fire, went out to fish but only lasted about 15 min the smell of the gas was making me sick. Was an lesson learned never did it again always doubled checked where the gas pump handle was ofter that. (Was young and dumb 18 and my first boat)
I haven't had any issues using PRI-G, but have not taken on ethanol fuel. The marina's down here are still selling ethanol free and advertising it with big banners. I hear the startron or whatever it's called works. I also think only use the fuel within 2 weeks is a bit insane. I have heard the shelf life on ethanol fuel is more like 3 months and the additives help prolong that. Being that there is NO advantage to using ethanol in the fuel and there are NO fuel savings by using it, I don't understand why we don't get rid of that mandate. If they add 10% ethanol, you get 10% less fuel economy plus the power needed to actually produce it.
