    HA! Apparently the word that functions as an intensive but literally means "Condemned, especially to eternal punishment" is too naughty to be posted at Yacht Forums. lol

    If the admins think that's bad, they should hear what yachties at the boatyard say!

    The juxtaposition of these two shots just about makes me want to cry. :p

    Thanks, Doug. Keep us posted on your progress.

    As to my progress, I installed the prop shafts and put one more coat of epoxy on the bottom over the weekend. One more coat and it's time for bottom paint!

    We've transitioned from the Devoe Coatings epoxy on the topsides to Awlgrip. Devoe is incredibly tough stuff (hardness is listed as 4h!), but it's simply too hard to use as a pre-topcoat primer. The Boatamalans will apply 6 coats of Awlquik on Friday and longboard one last time this weekend before applying a light coat of 545. If all goes according to plan (and the weather is still not cooperating), they'll machine sand with 320 on Saturday the 13th and it should be painted in brilliant Awlgrip white to the gunwale by June 14th.

    Pix to follow.

    Perserverance to the extreme!

    As I have followed this thread I now realize how lucky I was in that all I had to do was the same exterior work and a similar repower, BUT my interior was in more than acceptable shape. Did I mention it was only a 41'er? I was burned out after 2 years and you are still going strong! Congratulations on your efforts it will be worth it and I can now tell my wife I know someone else who has the disease worse than I did!!!!
    I really appreciate that even with all of the work you have kept the thread going. I was so tired of the boat I finally said to H*ll with it and let her sit the 2nd summer and played golf, and after that frustrated me enough I went back to the boat! Launch time was very special which I know will be for you as well. Have someone take a picture of you and the missus as you get her fired up for the first time. You will undoubtedly see the biggest smiles you can imagine. ENJOY

    Things have been moving along with the Roamer.

    We applied Awlgrip Awlquik, longboarded with 120 and 220, then finished it off with three coats of 545 primer. All that's left to finish the topsides to the gunwale is to machine sand with 320 and shoot.

    On the bottom, I'm applying one more coat of Devoe 235 next weekend and will overcoat with three coats of Vivid bottom paint. One of the great things about Devoe epoxy coatings is their 30-day recoat window. The 235 product has a hardness rating of 5H, which is extremely tough stuff, so much so that it's absolutely NOT the stuff you want to use for a pre-paint primer on the topsides. For the bottom and decks, though, concrete-hard is just the ticket.

    Anyway, my efforts on the Roamer had to go on hold for two weekends because it was time to haul my Connie for routine work.

    The tent was at the end of its service life and I won't be doing the topside paint at this marina, so I dismantled it while work progressed on the Connie.

    The fleet is in port!!!

    It's really looking good! I hope to take my hull down and redo it like that some day. We are putting our new cabin windows in today and tomorrow.:)

    Thanks, fellow sufferer! lol

    Good luck with the windows. Acellist came down this last week and brought me the aft salon windows out of his boat because he replaced them all with lexan. Mine were destroyed during one of the massive wind storms we had last year. I'm fitting the windows this weekend, too, along with a few other things.

    Progress is good.:)

    HA! Everybody asks about the stripe... lol

    The thing is, I have no idea how this boat's going to lie in the water. I'm going to hold off on the stripe until the boat's pretty much done.

    Stripes we've seen

    All lined up and ready to go (painting).
    Fact of the matter is, you want to:
    (1) Gradually get wider towards the bow - so as to;
    (2) "Capture" (and hide) the porthole windows, and;
    (3) Don't allow the flair of the bow to cause the top line to dip or rise - stay straight.
    Well, thatz our story, and we're sticking to it.

    It's splashed.

    Colton's Point Marina is under new management that doesn't understand they bought a workboat/DIY marina in SoMD without much water on the approach. They've become inhospitable for my project, so I splashed it and will take the beast around to the bay. I'll haul it at another yard, rebuild the tent before it gets nasty, and spend the next year getting it painted on the exterior and usable on the inside.

    And check this out--the boat is so light that the corners of the stern are entirely dry. It's almost got a canoe stern waterline! lol It'll be interesting to see where it sits once it's done and fully loaded.

    First time in 15 years, the Roamer is free of its dirt shackles.

    After stopping for a minute to haul the dinghy onboard, we got a'movin'.

    And a'movin' she does, too. 10kts and she's on plane. Barely, but I'll take whatever I can get. :lol:

    That had to feel good finally getting to run her and enjoy your hard work, I know you still have a long way to go but there had to be a lot of satisfaction in that run.

    So where did you move to?

    She was bobbing like a cork on the Chesapeake because she's so light, but it was indeed a good run. I've got it up in Deale now and am in the process of building a tent. After two years of experience behind me, I'm making the best tent ever this time! lol

    I have been reading your thread with great interest 'cause I have gone thru the rebuiling process myself. Your boat really looks great and I can't wait to see more pictures of your progress. Jim Reed (Copycat)
