hey folks, i've been on a bike tour today and got along peters-ag (remember al mirqab)
i've seen some action there, with a couple of container ships and Lone Ranger. Also there was something that looked like a refit of a research vessel. maybe someone knows more about this. pictures attached.

    Hi,

I believe it has or had the project name of Penguin and is originally a research vessel being converted to a yacht.

The current economic situation caused the Owner to call a stop to all works with quite a lot invested in her.

I was sent the spec and all details by a broker but don't have access to them today. I will try to remember to check the facts and figures during the week and re post- Brunick, feel free to shoot me a reminder if I forget.

    Yacht conversion

The stern reminds me of the ex german pilot vessel Captain Hilgen but if it is her, they have done major works already.
    regards

    Hi,

I guess you get the Tuesday morning prize.

This is out of the Introduction to the Spec.

The vessel "Kapitän Hilgendorf", originally built as an Elbe pilot vessel by Schichau Seebeck Werft in1961 is to be converted into a luxury ocean going motor yacht.............The old "Kapitän Hilgendorf" has been completely dismantled and the only major original components that remain are the propulsion motors, the anchor winch and the rotary vane drives for rudders; these three systems are to be stripped down and rebuilt to exacting standards. The hull and the internal steel structure has been inspected by the classification society and all steel has been renewed where necessary.........All insulation, pipe work, pumps and cables are to be totally replaced and the tank layout and function is rearranged to meet the requirements of a modern explorer vessel Major changes to the ship's design have taken place... and will be converted under the Rules and Regulations of Germanischer Lloyd

edit: just searched the "Kapitän Hilgendorf"
there's a wikipedia entry, http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kapitän_Hilgendorf, telling that the yacht is under construction at peters-ag
