    YachtNews,

Not sure what the point of your follow up post to mine was about. I was confirming your if I remember correctly statement and providing a little more info about the whacky interior as you put it.

    Borrowed from the automakers?

To me it is somewhat reminiscent of the masking that automakers use when they don't want car magazine or competitor spies to see what a new model looks like.

In this case, I fear they are hiding what might be a truly ugly yacht design.

In spite of that, I give them credit for having the gumption to do it their way!

Kind of makes life more fun!

Art superstar Jeff Koons has landed another hit, and designed his first yacht. The"Guilty", owned by art collector Dakis Joannou, features an extravagant artistic take by the US artist on the exterior.
"Of course, Sarah Morris’ text painting "Guilty" hangs on the wall of one bedroom - bought after the yacht was named. Owner and major art collector Dakis Joannou simply had to have it!

The exterior design was created by international art star Jeff Koons, famous for his basketball in perspex case, three-storey high "Puppy" made of flowers, and the "Made in Heaven" erotic series of photographs with Italian ex-wife and porn-star-member-of-parliament La Cicciolina.

Although the blown up print and poster colours will be familiar to art fans from Roy Liechtenstein’s signature Ben-Day Dots style, Jeff Koons actually based this design on a WW1 camouflage pattern.

A quote from a fellow designer...
"at least it floats...but then again, a lot of cr*p does"
I'm not a fan of most modern art myself, the unmade beds, the sheds, the sawn in half farm stock etc. I just dont 'get' it.
The basic design of this yacht, under the cammo, is pretty severe too. Not my favorite for 2008.

Well, I suppose painting the whole boat in "colour chart" is one of seeing just how it might(?) look. Does anyone know if the owner has yet decided what colour he (or she) really wants??

It reminds me of the BMW Art Cars. Let's hope they don't make a series out of this idea.

I give the camo paint job thumbs up. The less I can make of that profile, the better.

I think it's cool. Great to see people do something different.

I think it would be fun to be Capt. on that boat. You sure would get a lot of comments whenever you went ashore. I can just see it docking in St. tropez!

    What a trip!

Just like an un-secure teenager with spiked purple hair, tatoos and a nose-ring: "Please notice me, please pay attention to how out there and how groovey I am..Please." :D

Both the artist and the owner must have been smoking weed before they commisioned the thing.:p

I think that is exactly the point, Norseman. Art is intended to make you feel something—to see something new—and hopefully to see yourself and the world around you in a different light. I also believe that for some pieces of art, the “art” isn’t the piece on display, but the people viewing it and their reactions. For this owner, I’m sure that most people’s negative reactions are exactly what is expected, and what puts him in the “know” and us in the naïve children or ignorant fools category. In that regard, I think this yacht is a huge success because it has challenged all of our notions of what a yacht should be. Although I doubt I would ever paint a yacht the way they chose to, quite frankly, I find the yachts with the gaudy baroque and gothic interiors just as appalling. I for one am tired of the white one white hulls, the pretentious interior designs and the overwhelming majority of shiny happy people for crew.

LOL about the "smoking weed" comment. I for one, if I were ever to be completely stoned off my ass on a yacht, I would want to do it on this one. :D ---and then sail into San Tropez.

As in interesting as the yacht paint scheme is..... I think the "Made in Heaven" series would have made a bigger impression on the side of this particular yacht.
