I am looking to keep a 38m M/Y around the southern Italy area. We are finding that alot of places are just too expensive and when there is no guests onboard for 6 months in the winter, we are hoping to find a cheaper spot. Does anyone know of a marina that fits the bill?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

The best way to find out what's happenning in obsure places down that way you should contact the Pesto Team in Genoa.

This is an old family operation ( father and now sons) and although the Head Office is in Genoa I have always found them to be much better to deal with than their oppo nubers further south.

PM me if you want the contact details.

    Malta alternative

If southern Italy is not a prerequisite, then you may consider Malta as well. I know that several yachts berth there for the winter months.

Thanks guys for the replys. We are in Malta now and the Electric is about $4000 per month. That is low from what the other boats said theirs were. The dockage is cheap though at only about $2200 per month. I have an agent in San Remo that I know who is good checking into it but I try not to use them as they get pricey!. Thanks again!

If you are in Malta, Egypt is not too far away. There are marinas in Port Said and Alexandria and if you don't mind travelling an extra 15 hours south, Hurghada is a great place to keep your boat. For your boat size you would be paying here US$1050 per month for berthing and US$0.175 per Kw for electricity. If there is anymore information you need, please let me know.

You can also try Valencia. They have 2 new marinas. There is the Americas Cup Marina that will cost a bit and the there is Real Club Nautico that has a big and empty super yacht marina. There is a 60 meter currently and they are paying about 3500 euros per month.

Try This, I know of a two boat Owner who has relocated both yachts there.

    Thought about Gibraltar?

Gibraltar is a much over looked marina. No taxes and lots of sunshine. I've had my boat in Ocean Village Marina Gibraltar for over 3 years now and makes an excellent base.

    Banus an option?

DavidBanus, I was quoted 229 euros per day in Banus but Gib is only 78 for my 26m. Plus fuel is 40% cheaper as no VAT in Gib. Plus water and electric only half the price of Banus in Ocean Village Marina Gibraltar

What's the best price you could get in Banus? Maybe will be cheaper once new Marbella Marina is built?

You must to Know that Gib is not Banus. In Gib all is cheaper, no VAT and not a safe place for yachts in winter.

I remember that Porto Rotondo is rather moderate with the price except for the 2 month high season. Might be worth having a look at them.

    Hi,

That is if you want to be in the Mediterranean's equivalent of the middle of nowhere most of the year.

I have spent a winter there and felt like I was in a ghost town.
