New Milestone: One Million Hits A Day!

    ... well, that's not exactly true. On some days in July & August of 2008, YF had less than 750,000 hits daily. On other days, in excess of 1.25 million. An average of one million hits a day is a fair statement, because we exceeded 32 million hits this month. That's a big jump from the 26 to 28 million we floated at for the first-half of '08.

    As most of you know, 'hits' are a general reference of a website's performance. The important numbers are unique visitors. In July, we came close to 200,000 visitors. This figure is significant for YF because the only time we hit this number was the 'Splash' thread from June 2007, when forums and news sites around the world linked to YF. But for the past 2 months, we had nothing extraordinary to speak of, with the exception of our general content.

    Before you send congrats, remember... I'm just a small part of this equation. The content that YF members contribute is the REAL reason for our continuing acceptance. So, Kudos to ALL you guys! To commensurate the occasion, I've ordered YF polos for our senior (and not so senior) members. Should be ready in 10-14 days, but that's another thread.

    There is a commercial on TV showing a family who waves at people they pass in their town only to get blank, confused stares in return. Well, once this family gets on their boat all of their waves are returned by other happy boaters. I think this commercial accurately shows the boating community who contribute to Yacht Forums when we cant enjoy the water. (the happy waving people, not the grumpy non-wavers)

    Carl, you are being to humble about your achievements! Yes, YF members do contribute tons of information and experience but you have created a site that is far better than anything else on the web! So congratulations to all the members, especially the seniors and our "captain" who make this site a better place to be!

    IMHO it's the quality of content that has brought YF to its exalted position, and Carl Camper is the reason why. Website design is also a factor.

    I looked long and hard before I found this site and I am only a member because of the quality, as a new member quality is important to me and it's good to see members who are helpful and friendly, so Carl thank you .

    Not meaning to use dirty words here, but an aweful lot of newspapers and magazines would consider that one heck of a readership. Congratulations.

    Very few. I don't promote inbound links. The vast majority of our readers are finding us through search engines. This greatly increases the quality of readership (and membership) because these are people looking specifically for information on yachts. To promote external links in other sectors will only bring curiosity seekers.

    CONGRATS on this Milestone!
    Writing hundreds of lines of code and maintaining this Forum is not an easy task. The tenacity and drive you've shown in making sure YF functions efficiently every day (with the help of your trusty Admins, too) is just amazing.

    At this point, we are probably reaching more people (worldwide) than any yachting magazine, yet some builders are still unaware of the Internet. I'm not sure why some marketing directors are still living in the stone ages. A number of our advertisers have generated contracts from YachtForums.

    There are many places online in which one may fritter away one's time, but few are truly informative, and even fewer enjoy a classiness and style that Yacht Forums does. I am proud for all of us here.

    Big Congrats to you and the team that keeps this the first class operation it has become. The moderators are on the ball constantly and the yacht reviews are real pieces of work (thanks to Chuck, Ron and I think Loren too).
    Glad to have added my $.02 over the years, I've received much more than that in return.
    Make mine a L, as I am trying to loose a few pounds. No laughing.
