    I came across a thread from late last year worth revisiting for anyone considering working in Dubai.

    A local company claiming to be a world class interiors fitout company has done some big projects with a 140mt superyacht the next biggy.

    This company advertizes continuously for expats then misleads them with offers, is abusive of workers rights and attempts to hold peoples passports as a control (law in UAE is grey on this issue), demands 6 months notice but will fire you off the premises in a blink, states x hrs per week in the contract but expect more unpaid.

    There have been so many expats leave this company it,s accepted that if you worked in marine in Dubai you probably were with this company.

    Consider youself warned....

    Thats the one and it gets better

    The word is that client's want dont want a repeat performance due to project difficulties and delays

    It's not an uncommon problem in UAE

    We nearly used them on a big project but there was a nagging doubt amongst some of us in the team about the forecast cost and delivery schedule as it was so much faster and cheaper than anyone else and in spite of claiming to have a large order book the company didn't have any reservations about taking on another large project.

    There is another poster here who has advertised a couple of jobs that seem to be smoke and mirrors and the rewards go down as the negotiation progress.

    I wrote in one post and am still of the impression that the poster may well have just been trying to get copies of peoples Certificates of Competency to copy and sell on.

    Are you still out there working?

    Your concerns about their ability to manage on time on budget were well concidered.

    Methodology is grab every job and then just throw as many bodies at the work as necessary to get it done. Bodies being unskilled Indians and Filipinos.

    Company internal strife is WWII quality with ethnics from local regions that coundn't find their backsides with both hands forming their own little mafiaosa encouraged by mgmt as being productive.

    They have recruiters out looking for a PM to manage 140mt offering salary range £70-£80K...sucker bait!...at contract time it will get reduced.

    I'm in the region at times running projects but based both in SEAsia and Europe. Massive amounts of projects and jobs availible. Yacht industry is going balistic up here.

    I heard the story about the Auckland yacht builder that moved to Sydney there was talk about that happening about 2 years back also another one that dosen't treat his people right.

    What these guys fail to understand is our industry is specialized and personal the word gets around.

    How's NZ yacht building coping with the current ecconomic climate
