    Not really been in anything like that but was on board Stormbird on a supposedly quiet 4 dat delivery from southern Engeland to Dublin.. The weather men got it wrong big time.. I was on watch at the helm.. 2 in the morning in a force 9+.. Due North was the heading.. I could hardly see the bearing readout on the mast... 2 hrs was my shif.. Next guy up was 20 minutes late... I banged on the deck with feet right above his bunk.. Still no reply.. Well I was Attached by life line to deck so I tied off the helm and stood up to go below.. There was a strange noise to port.. As I looked outboard all I could see was a shadow approching to port.. The wave as it was, came in over the mast.. Washed right thru the Yach.. how it didn't capsize I will never Know.. Washed thru and took me with it.. Cartwheeld over the cable rail, which ripped through the skin to the bone.. Slammed agains the outer hull.. Hard as I tried I couldnt pull myself back up.. I was in the water upto my shoulders being slammed in to the hull.. I must have swallowed half the Irish Sea by then.. then just as I though oh well.. thats it... I felt the warmest hand I ever did... The skipper... We went down below.. While I was Throwing up in the head.. The skipper punched the other guy... I went Sailing ine time after that.. I cant even set foot on a Sailing yacht... Other posts on stormbird and some pics of last day sailing on her to follow soon as I find them

    Rolling in the surf

    Some Coast Guard surf boats demonstrating the principle of "self-righting" in the whitewater. I guess they are training. (some examples of poor driving if you ask me)

    This is not without risk though. In a storm last January in Holland, a similar boat sank because a door or window popped after 3 rolls. The crew was rescued.
