Went to the Barrett-Jackson Car Auction in Palm Beach. Always looking for a good write-off, I managed to find a "vessel" among a sea of cars, which officially made my $15 admission fee... tax deductible! ;)

We've all seen the Amphibicar, but as a lead into something you may not have seen, I'll present "Hemisphere", the Chip Foose designed roadster that is part retro & part Jetsons. If I remember correctly, 55 of these beauties will be built. I didn't dare ask how much. What makes this fast-forward, retro ride unique is... it's mid-engine! (check out the last pic)

I thought the "face" on this car was interesting. Anyone remember Predator?

Being a propulsion engineer, I took a double-take on this...

Have a look at the first pic of the green roadster, you can see the intake trumpets right behind the head rests in the cabin!

Wonder how you'd go if you had long hair!
Give the throttle a little prod, butterflys open, suck in air and hair, butterflys close.........jab brakes.:D

Not sure Jorge. Some of the prices these thirty & forty-something old cars are fetching is downright ridiculous. Heck, a few years ago... farmers would pay you take these old rusted heaps out of their barns.

Have to tell you the funniest part of the auction...

After too many people paid big bucks for these worthless hunks of iron on the auction block, they would roll the cars down a ramp to the outside of the building and hope, ahem... I mean pray, the engines would start! To give you an example of how bad it was... jumper cables and mechanics were waiting at the end of the auction block... and these guys were busier than the auctioneer! :D

    A red 1966 Amphicar went for $67,100.
The aqua one only sold for $50,600.

I'm hoping it's OK for me to add this thread- Last fall at IBEX, I met this guy from the UK, his name is Gibbs. He was in search of a US location for a manufacturing facility. He is building all sorts of cool vehicles that run in both water and on land. Here is one example.

I believe that Foose roadster was the winner for the auction, bringing in $300,000. The convertible GTH Mustang was second coming in at $250,000, and someone we're all quite familiar with in the yachting world was bidding on that car but backed out around $220k. Carl correct me if I'm wrong...

Haha I thought that was him on the TV. Did you pick up anything for yourself Carl? I didn't see any nice NSX's come through. :(

That's how I can afford a Bentley, not to mention my small collection of WRCs. :D
