The '70s-vintage Bertram 38 Race hulls would do just under 90 mph and some drivers experienced a condition known as 'chine-walking', a not particularly pleasant phenomenon.
BTW, that XSR48 has a lot of ZX350 in her roofline (<<<--alphabet soup!).

If it's just about speed you have a few Fountains which would do over 100mph and probably cost 1/6th of this XSR48. No idea what this XSR48 costs, but I am sure it would be around $1.5M, maybe I am mistaken. The Fountains would be around $250k-350k.

Sure, Fountains can't achieve these speeds except with the Mercury petrol engines.

I wouldn't want to be sitting in one at that speed. I do it on the road, but I won't on water.

With a Novitec Biturbo or the new Challenge Stradale you can possibly do it, but then you need the roads permitting it...

The XSR48 was presented as a model at the Monaco Yacht Show and I took a blurry picture of it. With this colour you will not be missed!

I've done over 300km/h in my F430 and in my SL55 AMG. These cars are built for those speeds and I feel quite confident. Novitec F430s would do more. They can go upto 216 mph (345 km/h).
200 mph in a powerboat is something else and would probably feel like 400 mph. I think I did 60 or 70 mph in a powerboat once and I swore never to do it again. It's mad .

Humor is one thing, but I'm out of my league on this one. So tell me, I notice lots of Dutch designs call for that downsloping windscreen at the helm. It's rather romantic in the context of high-speed, but I sure see the logic with the overhanging canopy. In this case, does this protrusion work like an automotive 'spoiler,' actually contributing to a downward force at the bow? What are the spray & wake characteristics of this hull as shown?

On this boat the arch is part of the structural integrity and the top speed is just about 60 mph. With the original hull we were running 95 mph twenty years ago. But this boat was only 80 kg (!) plus engine, fuel and the two of us. The engine was an offshore version of the OMC 300, turning out some 375 hp they said! Scary when you think of it, but the monohull boat was the best I have ever raced with, like a laser beam...
