Hello, I have a 1998 52' Viking princess with twin 3192 cat 660 hp. The drive shafts seam to be 3 1/4 " and leaking steady flow . Tightened to the max, still flowing. How dangerous to pick out old and repack while in my slip? Getting nervous

It s usually done in the water. Make sure you have your tools and the packing material ready and precut it. Nothing a healthy bilge pump can’t handle

What Pascal said, pre-cut them based on the shaft outside of the shaft log, stagger the seams, and use GFO packing.

And make sure you have the flexible corkscrew tool to
Extract the old packing. Much easier
