Sportfish to Cruiser Satisfaction?

I have had my 1990 Ocean 44 Super Sport for about 10 years and absolutely love the boat. However, I'm now considering making the switch to a single-level/open-style boat for many of the obvious reasons — easier access, less going up and down stairs, better connection between the cockpit/helm/salon, etc.

For those of you who have made the switch from a flybridge/convertible to a single-level boat, I'd really like to hear about your experience.

My biggest concern is what I'll be giving up. The Ocean has a massive salon, and I love having the bird's-eye view from the bridge when cruising. I'm also wondering how overnight trips feel on a single-level boat. Does the lower cabin eventually feel like you're "living in the basement," especially compared with the elevated salon and bridge on a convertible?

A few other things I'm wondering about:

• How much do you miss the elevated bridge and visibility?
• Do you miss the larger salon/living space?
• How does the single-level boat compare for entertaining?
• Do you find yourself using the outdoor space more because everything is on one level?
• How do you like the lower helm in rougher weather and on longer trips?
• Any difference in noise or comfort at the helm?
• For overnight/multi-day trips, does the single-level layout feel more or less comfortable?
• What did you unexpectedly like about the single-level boat after making the switch?
• And most importantly — what do you miss about your flybridge boat that you didn't expect to miss?

I'm not necessarily looking for someone to tell me one style is better than the other. I'm trying to understand what the tradeoffs are from people who have actually owned both.

I'd especially appreciate hearing from anyone who went from a larger convertible/flybridge boat (roughly 40–45') to a similar size curiser boat. Persoally I am drawn to the 41, 42 or 43 Tiara Open.
