Pulled out of Ketchikan AK early this morning for likely the last time. Pointed the boat south and started our 5 day run to Puget Sound. Day 1 was an easy 90 miles but we hit pee soup fog for about 3 hours. We managed it well and pulled into Prince Rupert mid-afternoon. Tomorrow is just under a 200 mile day and our longest day of the trip. Hoping the fog doesn’t give us as much trouble but we’ll deal whatever we have to. Current route plan has arriving our new temporary marina in WA state on Thursday.

We will stay in WA for about two months. We have secured a shipping spot and expect to load in Victoria about Oct. 30. It’s a two week shipment to La Paz, MX where I will meet the boat. From there it’s an easy 100 mile run up to Loreto which will be the new home for a beloved Donzi.

A little sad leaving Ketchikan given our 25 years of memories there. But we are super excited for the change in weather and the opportunities for new adventures and memories.

Would enjoy hearing how the shipping of the donzi goes. Sea of Cortez sounds like beautiful cruising.

I just moved my boat to Puerto Los Cabos in San Jose. Don't get me wrong I love Loreto and the islands. Fishing is ok a little hit and miss at times. It's hotter than holly hell especially this time of year. Man parts are like everywhere else in Baja lately, they will come from Seattle which isn't that big of a deal if you have a couple days. I fly my important guys in, Mechanic, electrician, electronics guys its. It can blow like hell there as well in the winter. Still a great place and the islands are beautiful. Nice thing about Loreto a change of scenery is only a day or two away. I've been down there for about 5 years and my boats never coming back. You probably have one already buy make sure you find a really good guy to look after the people you have working on your boat. I a really fortunate I do love to run my own boat and I also like to fish. My captain / manager makes sure all service is spot on and up to date, anything that breaks is fixed immediately, and he actually managers my boat in Southern, CA as well, couple hour flight. Lots of willing guys to wash, deck hand, I found a great Awlgrip and Gelcoat guy down there. In my opinion no need for spare prop and Propellers, I've hauled all 3,000 lbs of them around the sea of cortez for way too long. Props and shafts get shipped from San Diego and Newport every day. Any questions I'm happy to help.

That is going to be an amazing experience and hope everything goes smoothly with the relocation. I dream of someday fishing my own boat in Los Cabo’s.

Trip is going well thus far (knock wood). We have 450 miles behind us and right at 200 to go. Tomorrow will be a bit shorter run at 140 miles to Friday Harbor, WA. Then Thursday is a short run of 60 miles to our temporary slip for a few months at Pleasant Harbor Marine. Holy hell fuel is expensive in Canada. I paid over $6/gal (converted to US) yesterday . But I might as well get used to it as it even a little more in Loreto.

Great info - thanks for sharing. We chose Loreto due to the islands close by with all the bays and inlets and beautiful beaches. Also for the low crime rate friendly people and small town feel. I’m OK with hit and miss fishing. We will be in Puerto Escondido which is a stunningly beautiful setting and Marina.

I will bet the Donzi will appreciate getting back to warmer waters :)

We successfully completed the first the trip of the journey. Pulled into our temporary home at Pleasant Harbor Marina in Brinnon, WA at 10 am yesterday. The boat ran flawlessly for all 685 miles. The only challenge was we nearly had an International incident when we inadvertently crossed into a restricted area during a Canadian military exercise in the Strait of Georgia. The restricted area was shown on the chart but only by an outline box with no indication it was restricted or why. The young punk at Range Control was on a power trip or something. He was a condescending little prick on the radio. Nonetheless, I took the high road and navigated out and around the restricted zone. I was happy to cross back into US waters a few hours later.

A few months in WA and then it's off to sunny Mexico! I can't wait for boating in shorts and bare feet :). I'm going to gain a bunch of room in closets and drawers by not needing rain gear and coats.

It should. It was designed for Florida. I have a full chiller system with zones in each stateroom and salon. I can't remember the size of the chiller units but we replaced both compressor/chillers units back in 2015 or so. I ran it last week and it worked well.
