Hi all, I'm looking into buying a yacht as a retirement project to refit and use as a live-aboard and charter, and I am looking for some information about the builder and the project. The yacht I've been looking at is a 105' steel hull that sleeps 10 and 4 crew. I have been trying to research this vessel and the builder, but it seems there is little info to be found. It was built by Astillero Jorge R Chediek in Argentina in 1991, and was 1 if 3 built that I can find records for, all around the same time from '89-92. The 105' was the mid size, and there's a ~145' still in operation. I can't find anything on the smaller yacht other than size and a few specs. It had been dry docked a couple years ago and had many updates done. The engines are twin 12v396 MTU with only around 570 hours. Engines and generators were serviced just before being abandoned. The hull had some plates replaced, bottom coated, and hill painted. It seems like all safety equipment was just updated as well. There was also mention of a hatch being replaced, and new seals all around. Recently, all fuel, water, and tanks were emptied. The biggest issue seems that there had bern water leakage or hatches left open while is dry dock. The vessel had been seriously neglected for years. There is some topside steel that needs replacement, along with teak decking. The interior is the worst, needing new flooring and some walls, plus some woodwork replaced. From the photos, I think it looks far worse than it is and whole sections can be replaced at once, allowing some prefab and easy remodeling and install. So here's my questions: First, does anyone know of this builder, and if they might be still in business or have been merged into another company? If so, is there any contact information to maybe get some records, manuals, etc ftom them? Secondly, if anyone has experience in refitting/repairing vessels like this, are there any things that became a SNAFU or became problematic? I'm hoping if I take on this project that wifer and I can do 95% of the work in a timely manner. (We both have backgrounds in areas that would qualify us) Thank you in advance for your help!
