Do any of you 355 owners know the holding tank sizes and is there an easy way to view them. I do not have tank monitors and they filled up on me this weekend. Thanks again for all of the help!!

Waste - Unless modified, You have two 18 gallon tanks. one fore and one aft. Aft tank is located under the carpet just to starboard and a little forward of the birth in the aft stateroom. peel the carpet back from a point just below the nightstand next to the bunk and it will reveal two access panels, aft is for your aft bilge pump and the one forward is where you rear tank sits. I agree with CAP you may need to change your filter if overflow occurred. Your forward tank is located under your galley floor just to the rear of the floor access panel. There you will find your tank and macerator. Fresh water - located under the Aft Cabin bed. 81 gallons. These are all easily accessible and easy to install a tank monitor. If you stay on your boat a lot like I do, Invest in a good monitor. Good luck!

Thanks all!! Man those are small tanks! Weekend trips on the lake with my two daughters and wife will fill them up quickly . I am coming from a house boat with a single 80 gallon tank. Of course I never liked riding around with that much stuff on board.
Where are the filters? I have a 98 355 Aft Cabin and have not run across filters on the holding tanks anywhere!
If you have a Vacu-flush head you should have a filter in the vent line. It's cylindical, about 2" in dia and a foot or so long, made by SeaLand. They're easy enough to change, although the job can get nasty. Here's a link so you can see what you're looking for: Vent Filters - Dometic Sealand
Yes, I have the Vacu-flush head. I have never seen anything like that but as soon as the weather warms up where I can get to the boat I will check it out. Did Carver include them from the factory or are they an add-on later? I am shocked that I have not seen them as I have been all over the boat. Thanks for the info!
Standard with vacuflush heads. In fact I'm not even sure they can operate without them. BTW, if you go past full those filters are shot. They're generally put in a fairly accessable location, but I have seen them buried pretty good as the other poster seems to be finding out. Always remember that this is your boat. Don't be afraid to explore those little hatches.
Ok. Thanks! I have been in every hatch numerous times that is why I am shocked that I have not seen them. As soon as the weather breaks I will check it out.......
My 1997 355 did not have filters, I installed them myself this spring. Very simple to install and work great. Good luck!
Generally most carvers did not have the filters. 20 years on mine without filters. No smell, nothing.
I got to my boat last night to find a smell of sewage. It turns out that the forward black water holding tank is leaking into the bills right at the inlet. As anyone replaced these tanks before or had a leak and sealed them up? Anyone know where I can get a replacment tank? And if I am going to replace a tank anyway is there Room to increase the tank size I believe they're 18-20 gallons now
I'd like to know that as well. I have a 1994 Carver 350 Aft Cabin with two 18 Gallon waste holding tanks, 1 for each head. The forward one is attached to a vacuflush, which is our primary head and I don't see signs of a filter. I'd love to I crease the size of that tank and it appears there might be a bit of room. For the aft head access seems impossible. Perhaps it's under the glued down carpet but I can't find an access panel for the access to the inspection hatch. Any one have any knowledge on this? In addition I was thinking about putting a vacuflush unit in the aft bilge but when we're under way any of the water in the mid bilge moves to the aft bilge. Would that be a problem if I placed the vacuflush unit there?
Look between the holding tank and the vent for it. It's usually quite accessible. In 30 years it's possible that someone put on a direct line to eliminate changing filters but that's where it should be.
Thanks for the info. I've taken a look at the vent line which runs aft along the starboard side of the tank and thru a bulkhead into the engine room and no signs of any filter.
Someone may have removed it over the years. Probably didn't change it until it clogged and then eliminated it rather than considering it a normal maintenance item. Not a hard job to put one back in the line. Beats having the smell. There's a lot of below deck space on that boat if you want to change out or add to that holding tank. Look in Boats & Harbors. There's usually ads for companies who will make a custom tank to fit your space.
