Back in the late 60's, I lived aboard my 1950's era 46' wood hull Chris Craft (Bull-Nose). I loved that old boat, but sure was glad to sell it. The wood was a lot of work, but those boats truly had character. I'd love to see pictures of old Chris's. It takes me back in time.
Connies have Character A friend used to have a 57' Connie that was (virtually) restored - it was charming! As for the wood, I've heard the hull can be covered with glass cloth and epoxy, making it as strong as a steel hull and essentially maintenance-free. I'm looking for a long-range cruiser, and know I really need a full-displacement hull like a trawler ... but I find myself wondering if I could repower a Connie down to about 200hp(?) to make 8-10kts cruise, and still get decent range.
