Close call leaving the marina tonight. 3 calls on 16, 5 blasts... the idiot kept coming at me forcing me to stop just over the edge of the channel. Being my home for 20 years I knew there was enough water at high tide. Right after the boat leave the shot you can see Green Day marker dead ahead of the bow and how much I had to turn back in just to clear it.

it’s getting insane here. It’s not like a 116 footer is hard to see.

I experienced the same more times than I care to remember sailing and coming in / out of ports in Greece and Turkey. Plastered skippers in Turkey is a big problem but one night coming around the heads into the harbor for Yalakavak marina it went one better. As usual coming into any port in Med I'm lit up like Sydney Harbor bridge on NY but had to give way hard to a big Turk MY coming head on to me doing about 12kts and same time avoid underwater shelf on my port, as the MY passed me I couldn't see anyone at the helm.

In the video, "The area is so expansive" . What?
My office was there at South East Marine for a while. I know that area well. Give me a break.
I am glad it is getting used more than when I was there 2003ish.

Still in my travels, I still anchor off of Nixons dock and dink into the club when an event is happening.

Another reason all boats should have a flair gun...

It isn't only in Miami, when I lived in San Diego I had an episode with 2 kids on jet skis doing the same thing while I was kayaking. They almost over turned my kayak and that of another man right behind me. They were laughing and drinking beer while doing this. I have come to dislike people on jet skis.

Thru these many years on the water, I have also just resolved to hate all jet-skis/wet-bikes and their owners.

Two life's ago, I rode one around for a weekend. Big Sea-Doo with fancy everything.
    I got bored.
I assume these knat owners are bored also and to justify their expense, just have to show off more of their brilliance. SFBs.

IMO, it's a lack of enforcement problem. I spend half the year on the Great Lakes (Mostly Ohio & Michigan) and the other half of the year in Florida. The difference in law enforcement strategy couldn't be more stark between the two. For instance, we watched the boats in downtown Miami a few weeks ago and were simply amazed at how frequently people - including young kids - were sitting on the bow with their legs hanging over the side while the boat was underway...right past Miami-Dade police, who were nonplussed about it. If that was attempted in Ohio and witnessed by authorities, a citation would be coming along with anything else they could find during their boat inspection...and they would definitely find something else. Also, 'No-wake' zones in Florida seem like more of a casual suggestion than a strictly enforced limit.
    cleanslate and bliss like this.

When I lived in south Florida, and whenever we return on our boat, I was/am constantly amazed that there are not a dozen boating fatalities every weekend. Maybe, God is just amused by idiots and wants to keep them around for laughs.

I have to ask I could not tell from the video, did the "capt" give you a friendly hello wave, ie, was he totally clueless?

I hope they find those jet skiers and convict them of a serious felony. That was rough to watch.

Nobody cares. Here at dinner key marina the public boat ramps are clearly marked with signs prohibiting the use of the ramps for commercial purposes. Every day there are a few guys coming to launch jet skis with big trailers carrying 4 or 5 jet skis. Clearly rentals. You see then leaving and coming back sometime after sunset with one ski towing two or three. All rendezvous rentals for charters. Nobody cares. They re using up limited trailer parking for commercial operations

Time to send them some pictures and suggest they get off there asps's.
Or refund the residents the cost of the sign.

....come to discover that it's Parks staff running their own private charters...
