Nothing that I know in SE flu but indeed Moorings has power cats charters out of nassau. They will require a minimum or experience and probably do a check ride. A captains license is just a piece of paper and if you don’t have the required number of sea time you won’t qualify anyway.

Something that SW FL has no charter opportunities. Is there no market?
I imagine boat share clubs for center consoles and bow riders are operating but no express cruiser or trawler weekly charters?

Yeah either small boat rentals or crewed day charters. Lots of them... I guess the risks of damage to the boats are too high considering the skill level of the average boater. Alcohol is likely a concern as well.

Cats are their only option, so there's not much variety.

Only a few, and their schedules weren't full last time I checked. Is there a market for hopping from Captiva to Marco? It doesn't seem like it but I may be mistaken. SE FL coast and keys seem more exciting. I could see hopping to the keys on my own boat but not sure renters want to spend a whole day being sea sick each way and paying for gas. Maybe? SWFL mostly seems like a family crowd who most likely won't spend day charter large cruiser level money to drive around on the water for the day. SWFL also doesn't seem like the party crowd who will pay day charter large cruiser level money when they can take a shuttle to drop them off at the Keewaydin sand bar party for $20.

Yep, polenty of small boat rentals. Maybe there just arent' enough interesting places to hop? Or the population density of SWFL is markedly lower than SEFL?

Far fewer people and tourists on the west coast.

On the east coast, the keys are great for small boats but anything over 50/60 and your options become very limited. The Miami /FTL area is ok for a day trip but not that special.

bottom line for charters is that the costs to chartering in the Bahamas are the same but so much better quality wise. Just an hour from south Florida

There used to be a company that rented trawlers over there. I think they mostly used Grand Banks. Don't remember their name but might still be in business.

Yeah, they're still in business and have everything from a 36' Grand Banks to a 56' Carver.

Bareboat Charters - SW Florida (chitwood-charters.com)

Rates are pretty fair. $2400 for a week on 36' Grand Banks., $2600 for a 42'. L:eek:cated in Sara Sota,Fl

    Southwest Florida Yachts.

Also, Chitwood did previously but I believe they're out of business now.

Nice! Thanks so much to you and olderboater! Nice variety of boats here. Are Trawlers significantly more stable than cruisers? Or just better fuel efficiency?

Let's talk specific boats and, no, Grand Banks and Beneteau Swift Trawler and Sabreline are not more stable than cruisers. Now, trawlers that might be classified as passagemakers are a different story, but that's not what they have.

While Chitwood's website is still active, I don't believe they are.

Did anyone attend the Miami Show? Specifically the yacht show downtown on the waterfront?

Yes. Parking was a mess. The showed was charging $100 cash only. Getting in required use of app but cell signal was so bad it took like 20 minutes to load. Bathroom lines were too long. Boat inventory was reasonably good for this show.

I was there Thursday through Saturday, stayed downtown and walked to the show which was difficult due to construction. The sail side seemed much smaller than I remember from other Miami shows, and there were few interesting brokerage boats. The most interesting to me were a Feadship designed by Carlo Riva, and a 50 foot Wesmac with a lot of wood on it, finished off at Lee Wilbur. On the new boat side, the 60 foot Pardo had a good layout, and was interesting looking.
    Best,
