I struck out on a slip at south beach marina and i am hoping to get into sunset harbor for the Boat Show next month. If I cant get a slip I am debating mooring out. I think i could find an OK anchorage in the star island area and use my 14' RIB to get to shore but I am worried about a secure landing spot. Does anyone have any recent knowledge of any good options?

In the past dinghies would be allowed to go up the canal along dade boulevard and tie up across to the Publix supermarket. Unfortunately Miami and Miami Beach are among the most boater unfriendly cities in the country

Miami Beach marina has a small boat dock used for the restaurant. I think they charge a small fee. Maybe be worth asking them. The dockmaster at MBM is always very helpful

the anchorage at marine stadium and dinghy landing are closed during the boat show so that’s out

the only other option is coconut grove and the dinghy dock at Dinner Key. Speaking of which have called Dinner Key and see if they have room? Long shot but ...

No water taxis that I am aware of. They moved back to the convention center.

That is a good idea about Miami Beach Marina, I may be able to just ask permission, I would be happy to pay to keep it there.

The ramp and dock just south of sunset right by the water police station. They reluctantly allowed me to tie up for about an hour to get groceries. You could also see if Sunset doesn’t have a slip for the big boat would they let you pay to put the dinghy in an out the way place. I very much enjoy Miami but it has all the problems of a big city and I would take some measures to keep the dinghy from being stolen.

2 years ago I lucked into a slip at Sunset Harbor(54’) on the sat of Miami Boat Show as someone either departed or cancelled at last minute. Call day of -after lunch ….. otherwise it’s really hard to get a spot or dingy landing.
