Does anyone have experience running from the Puget Sound south. I have searched over and over and only come up with sailing info. I need to relocate a 42' Ocean SS. I have a few months to plan and make the run. I appreciate any knowledge, experience and recommendations.

What kind of speed can you reasonably make? I think Neah Bay to Westport is like 125 miles that's your stretch with no real stops I believe. Should be able to find a decent day to make that run? I have only gone north from Puget Sound myself.

I should be able to cruise at 12-14 I believe, depending on mother nature. The boat will run much faster but slow and steady work for me. Is there any web sites etc. that you recommend for this sort of trip planning?

If you have not done so read the coast pilot for the area you are going to navigate. Particularly the comments on the bars. Besides your favorite marine weather website locate the bar cameras and bar condition website. Once you find your weather window make sure that the bar/harbor is open for your intended destination and the ones in between for emergency purposes. While you are at it read the local notice to mariners for the latest navigation info. Travel during the day to avoid the deadheads and the fishing gear/ crabpots. Should be a nice cruise.

First question I have is the size of the crew. If only two of you, I'd try to confine to daytime running. We looked carefully at Active Captain and other resources for all the marinas along the way. One of the most useful is the CG which provides information and help at all bars and regularly updates conditions. However, your trip is rather simple. First, is the 130 nm from Neah Bay to Westport. From Westport then I look at Tokeland as a bail out location but would generally just go to Astoria, about 100 nm. I'd also then do the 100 nm to Yaquina in one day. I'd look at Garibaldi/Tillinook as a bail out on that route.

The longest day you face is to Westport but that's also the best bar. If that day is too long then stop at Tokeland and shorten it. I'd personally speed up long enough to make that trip during daylight. If not, then I'd get an early start and sweep wide around Cape Flattery. There are times that this is an easy trip but other times you have to wait for many days before starting or along the way.
