Hi! I'm about to replace a VacuFlush system with new macerator toilets and would like the advice from 'head mistress' Peggy Hall. On her Facebook side, she writes that she will reply to e-mail only. But does not state her e-mail adress. Does anybody know har e-mail adress and could share it?
First, for spelling, her name is Peggie Hall. I would recommend buying her book on Amazon, available for $8.99 on Kindle. Otherwise, private message me and I can give you a means of contacting her.
Separately, I got rid of my two vacu-flush heads and replaced with the Raritan macerator units. Happy to help if I can. It’s a pretty straightforward swap. I did a thread on it here on the forum. Biggest challenge is accessing everything but maybe not a problem for you depending on what boat you have.
First of all, sorry for getting the spelling of her name wrong - that is really impolite! I have bought her book and also read quite a few of her answers in different forums to different question. Regarding e-mail: I'll PM you.
That sounds reasuring! I appreciate your help. Actually I'm not only replacing the 2 toilets, I'm also replacing the holding tank - I got one built to size by Tek-Tanks in the UK (polypropylen) - 134 liters/35 gallon - where I got nuts fixed on top of the tank to directly fit the two 3-way valves on top of the tank to minimize the length of the sanitary hoses. Removing the vac-pump and the vac-tank and the 2 'cross-boat' sanitary hoses will shorten the sanitary hoses of each toilet with around 3-4 meters! I have my heart set on the Planus Match toilet - do you know how that with reapect to function, quality and silent operation conpares to the Raritan Elegance (have just found out that there is a Raritan dealer i Germany, just 3 hours from where I live - maybe I should take the Raritan Elegance into consideration). Have you installed a vented loop in the discharge hose from the toilets? My boat is a Princess 60 from 1998 - the toilets sits on a small 'step' and the top of that step is around 10 inch above the waterline. From there it goes directly down to the 3-way valve on top of the holding tank in the center bottom of the boat and then 99,99% of the time directly into the holding tank. I have the possibility to switch the 3-way valve and let the discharge continue to a sea valve for direct into the sea discharge. But normally this sea valve will be closed and the 3-way valve will lead the discharge into the holding tank.
I did not install a vented loop. In fact, I removed the old siphon breaks which greatly reduced my hose length. I'm routed directly from the heads to the wye valves and into the tank or directly overboard. Most of the time mine is routed directly overboard. So far, I couldn't be happier with the Raritan units. I wish I would have done this swap several years ago. I also put in the SEA/Fresh option which is great. Allows me to switch from seawater to freshwater at the flip of a switch.
I replaced the 25 year VFs on my 53 with Raritan elegance. Straightforward job bumpy just removing the vac tanks and pumps. I think I replaced one section of hoses and just used connectors where the vac tanks and pumps where I ve never understood the point of having y valves and direct discharges since they can only be used far offshore. More hoses, extra valves etc. I prefer to run waste to the tank and then used an overboard macerator when allowed.
Peggy Can I use 2” exhaust/water hose (Triton) in place of sanitation hose. This is for holding tank to theough hull fitting
Peggy doesn't monitor this forum, but I don't think she'd approve of that choice, stick with Saniflex or similar
Yes but poorly. You would think exhaust hose, dealing with hot exhaust gasses and fuel chemicals would hold up to everything, But I would not us it for black water. Exhaust hose is not made to hold up to these extreme bio issues. FYI; black water is alive. Had me on my back for 10 weeks with blood poisoning.
johnhansen.69235 i changed all!!! my sanitation hoses in my yacht if you want to save yourself troubles by the best you can find and don't try to save a penny !!!
Just yesterday in another forum, she said Saniflex is the only sanitation hose she recommends these days. (We used Saniflex in a sanitation system upgrade, and found it very easy to work with.) And she said most systems use 1½" hose. -Chris
Agreed. Raritan macerator devices. Nice outcome knowing that if something fails, use another head. It doesn't require an engineer to keep it running.
