Anyone have any knowledge about the 90’ Huckins named Hemingway. It is up for auction next week and thinking of making a move on it. Saw it last week and it appears to have sat for quite a long time without use. Any insight would be great.

Send a PM to YF member Maldwin. He’s had a Huckins and is a walking Wiki on the brand.

Contact Sara or Cindy at Huckins directly.
Lots of history on this ship.
Huckins are a breed of boats to them selves. You have to really be into them to own one.

I see Boathouse is auctioning her off.

Most classic builders, for that matter.

I haven’t been aboard for about 5 years, but she is a beautiful boat, one of the nicest looking hulls Huckins ever built. I believe she has had good recent care, but I would want to be able to survey the boat.
    Best,

Was at Huckins yesterday. Cindy & Buddy are off on a vacation trip.
Sara may be able to find some data on file if needed.
    Good luck to all bidders.

Broker suggests the only bid activity was very low, so they cancelled the auction. He represents "the owner doesn't need to get rid of her", but then why auction? I agree with your pricing perspective. I love the boat, but I'm all boated up.

Well I can tell you I was the only potential bidder according to the Boat house Auction president. With the "No Reserve" it was tempting but there has been so many changes to the boats hull that it didn't seem like a good idea.

I'd likely be in your shoes if in the market, and I'd very likely have these same concerns. Broker said the "bids" were representative of someone thinking the owner needed to unload her. I think the "bids" (without seeing them) were likely more respectful of what she is and what is required as compared to what the owner and broker are hoping to achieve.

Yes, I learned that the Captain replaced the entire white oak boards that join the hull to the deck with PVC!!! The 4 cones which make the Huckins hull so effective have been removed by faring. The 4' Aluminum swim platform was added to help the boat plain better............there are plenty more items.

    Thanks for the reply.
Hope the owner enjoys the de-grades.

I was actually going to be bidding on her on behalf of a client also and was told 3 hrs before the auction she was pulled.

I always get a kick when people insist on telling you “I don’t HAVE to sell it!” in response to an ad where they’re selling it. It’s so nonsensical. My response is generally good for you, I don’t have to buy it either.

Very simply owner was within hours of a serious disappointment in selling price unless he had a bogus bidder ready to jump in and then just have to pay the 10% seller's fee. Always a gamble going with no reserve. At auto auctions you sometimes see sellers shocked.

She was a beautiful boat, but I have a feeling one might spend $3 to $4 M to bring her into perfect condition. At that point, she might be worth $1 to $1.5 M
