I have an ACR SeaShelter mount for my EPIRB. Installation instructions caution against mounting where it could be trapped when the hydrostatic release activates. Any ideas? This is going on a 54' Bertram Sportfish.
I don’t know if I am doing this the best way but I carry mine in the ditch bag which stays on the flybridge when offshore.
Mine is mounted on the exterior salon/cockpit bulkhead, in the upper stbd corner but not too high so it is reachable. Before any outing where I have people onboard that have not been on the boat previously I do a safety briefing. In that briefing I show everyone the EPIRB, how to open the shell and tell them if we ditch or boat goes down grab it I and take with you on way out. It is also in a place where it would float free if boat goes down before anyone can get to it.
Epirb is in an exterior pocket of the ditch bag. My intent is for all of that to come with me in the life raft.
Always had issues with sport fishers. Out riggers, fishing equipment and more could hang the EPRIB up while sinking. We we recommended on the fly bridge cowling forward. Yes, in the sun but it will float free. Also, the last place your going to be, the for- deck, deploying the dink or raft, you can still reach up and manually activate it.
