How **** are you about your tool kit?

    Just moved my Mini, Midi and the big Bugger tool kits from one job to another.
    Now most of you would think nothing of it. But to me, loosing that 4.5mm socket has driven me up the wall. All the mags and grabby things in the bilge, it's not complete.

    Now I know some of these tools were a Freebie from the dealer, but the rest was paid by good hard earned cash.

    I've had them for over 30 years and been looked after. Okay, here's the rub. My 13mm socket cracked today!!!

    Big sodding wrinkle right down the side. I'm not a monster on my tools, used correctly.

    Being an engineer on Mega's for many years I'm EXTREMELY **** about my tools. They how I earn my living and keep a reliably functioning yacht.

    I have standing orders for all the mate's and deckies that ALL TOOLS sleep in the engine room. That means that if you are doing a project, at the end of the day, whether you are finished or not, bring the tools back to the engine room for the night, and check them out again the next day. The reason being, if I have an emergency during the night all my tools will be where they belong, not scattered around the boat. And the punishment is, I will NOT wake you up to go get the tools, I WILL wake the Captain up, and HE will wake you up. Guarantee you'll only do it once!!

    The second standing order I have is that if you break a tool of lose it overboard notify me immediately. If we're using it, that means it was important an I need to replace it as soon as possible. If I'm not notified then the next time we need it, it won't be onboard, which will hinder my ability to do my job and be a detriment to the reliability of the vessel.

    If a Deckie borrows a tool, they're Elctrical Officers now, you return and put it back in it's place. They're called Electrical Officers now.
