    I'm running 8V92ti`s, using Raycor 2020N, 10 Micron.
Just curious as to what (Microns) other Capts w/8V92's are using in their Raycors?
    Advantages/disadvantages?
    Thanks in advance

I use 10 microns. I've had fuel issues on 4 different yachts under 2 years old running 30's, where the secondaries were plugged to the point we had alarms or performance issues and the racors looked relatively clean. I'd much rather change a $15 racor in 2 minutes, than spend 10x changing secondaries and needed fuel to fill them and the racors anyways. The particles with the lower sulphar diesel are smaller and seem to pass through the 30's.

Secondary filters are from 4 to 16mic to begin with. With 10 mic primary, the secondary filters are not utilized much.
Skippy J has his routine and is a good idea. Keep in mind; Some Detroit secondarys are hard to service as Skippy J mentions, some are easy.

As others respond, it may be a mixed soup of replies.

I use dual 30mic Racors and 16mic secondary on most of the Detroits around us.
I'm sure the newer engines need tighter filtering.

I kind of think it depends on your fuel use and condition of your tanks.
If the 10mic's are working for you, not clogging up often, then don't kick the dog.

Below is my list of filters we have used for 12V71 spin on secondarys.

    Donaldson DBF0047 4mic Secondary
    DDC # 23530644 5mic Secondary
    WIX 33959 10mic
    NAPA # 3959 10micSecondary
    DDC # 23530643 * 16mic Secondary
    Donaldson # P550959 * 16mic Secondary
    Fleet Guard # FF5037 16mic

Detroits can run on strong Bloody Marys or spiked fruit drinks. Filtering out the pulp is not required.
Just no ice or water. This is what your Racors should be doing with clean tanks anyway.

30 microns racors and whatever secondary the engine manufacturer recommends. Always done that with generators and mains.

that said i know the conditions of the fuel in my tanks or the boats i run. If there is any doubt about the conditions of the tanks then using 10 microns racors is an option.

and with dual racors I always run on one racor at a time. This way I always have a fresh one ready to go. Pretty much every boat I ve gotten on had the selector to run off both.

I run 2 micron Racors on the theory and experience that clean fuel causes less wear. I go years w/o replacing an injector on my Detroits or generators. Fuel pumps last forever and injector pumps on the generators are original. As a side benefit, my tanks stay clean, and they're big enough to enter and walk around, so I know.

I'm in agreement. I cannot understand having the selector set to run off both. Defeats the purpose. As far as I'm concerned the purpose of dual Racors is to be able to quickly switch the selector to the clean one - to buy me time (before having to change filters).

I'm with you, Pascal. I run 30's in the Racors and 10's on the mains. I'm also extremely diligent about consuming oldest fuel first, always dumping my reserves into my mains prior to refilling tanks. Everything logged, easy to follow...
