    Built in the late 60's this ole girl won lots of races into the mid 80's. The son (or grandson?) of the original owner bought her back and sprinkled a few $$$ over her. Launching this week to do the Annapolis to Newport race.
    I will be at the start in my downeast boat taking photos. Hope its a down wind start 20 plus.

    Sailing World has a good article on the restoration "The Rebirth of Running Tide."

    The original owner was Jakob Isbrandtsen, later it was sold to Al Van Metre who raced it with sons. Running Tide was always a stripped-out pure racer, and won pretty much everything despite being an older CCA design campaigned in the heyday of the IOR. Beau Van Metre bought the boat back in 2020 after selling it in the mid-1980s.

    I've obviously spent far too much time studying S&S boats, because I recognized it was a new rudder but the original keel...

    Good to Know. So Van Meter also owned a 78' Burger CMY that is now for sale here in Annapolis. (Roy Sea IYC)
    What was the name of the Burger during Al's ownership?

    That boat and its name were both an inspiration for me when I lived in the Chesapeake/Annapolis area,...so much so that when I decided to give a name to my new (at the time) boat business/website I chose "RunningTideYachts".

    If I recall properly I contacted Al VanMeter to ask his permission.

    Running Tide pulled into Annapolis this morning after a 40 hour trip down from Newport. She is back in her old spot at Arnie Gay’s. They had 27 knots of wind and pouring rain coming down the coast. Doing 10-12 knots with a reefed main and a staysail. Nothing broke, just a few leaks. New engine runs fine. She will race to Newport in a vintage class (she is 52 years young) that allows electric winches.
