    Just an idea.

As crew need references to get jobs, then why not the owners we're applying to??

It would help weed out out the bad owners that don't treat there crew with respect or dignity. It could even work for crew getting jobs with Captains, getting the Captains reference.

It seems to me to make sense to me, but it could make a few problems reference privacy etc. I wonder if there could be a way of doing it?????

    no not today

Actually No, but I just left my position as Captain on the yacht so that I can upgrade my MCA licence to the 3000 gt OOW. After that I am looking for a larger yacht and I started thinking about who I would be working with????

As we all know in this industry it seems more of who you know when you are finding jobs. I always seem to find or know some one who knows some one or something of the program and opperations of a boat,,,, happy crew, decent budget, caring or uncaring owners, good or bad mantained vessel, bla bla bla.
I am sure almost all people do the same who have been around for a little bit. I don't think I am violating anyone's privacy or anyone giving me any info that is violating to personel life styles. Just info to help me make decisions as they will do towards me, and rightfully so...

    Hi,
C4ENG- You have hit the nail on the head.

We all have our sources about those that count in our chosen field. You and I have exchanged some PM's in the last 18 months and everything you have told me to date has been as useful as the things I have said in answer to your questions.

Oh yes.. perfect case in point... for every one else,
About a year or so ago I had some possible buisness job lead situations come to me out on the field. I was trying to do some research on what possible opprotunities I might have had in front of me and K1W1 knew these poeple who knew these other poeple that were friends with these poeple..long story shorter......
Very useful information was relayed to me in helping me make sound decisions with what I had going on at the time while no ones privacy was violated or any one harmed in the making of that film.
    Thanks again K1...

    yachts

I think I'll start contacting people more to check out these yachts/owners in future. The thing thats bothering me the most in the past is joining a boat that has had a serious lack of basic maintenance and then having to play catch up. Lady luck has been on my side and nothing serious has gone wrong, but only time!!!!! I'm glad I have an engineering background as well as my Captains licence.
In the meantime anyone feel free to contact me in reference to

    MY Mas Grande 121ft Sovereign
    MY Intrepid 102ft Feadship
    MY Resilient 85ft Huckins
    SY Mistral 85ft Legendary Schooner
    MY Neenah Z 111ft Codecasa

Please give me a call. I have some questions about the 102 Feadship Intrepid, now named Blue.
    Thanks,

DK how it is elsewhere, but the grapevine is pretty good here. Word goes out on bad owners. I remember one owner I refused to work for a 2nd time calling me 2 summers later out of desperation cause his boat spent the summer sitting on the dock. No captains would work for him. Gave me a good chuckle. Unfortunately though it's a matter of supply and demand, and in many places there's more captains than boats to work although bad owners tend to get the captains they deserve.

You do realize the post you quote is 13 years old? Although Chris did last post here 15 months ago so there is hope.

Kudos for doing that deep a search. Next person won't have to search so far now.
