Hello folks. Im a new owner of a 1986 Ocean 44SS. I am doing a huge refit on her and happily discovered (when buying) my vessel has a Bow davit install. The davit is missing but the below deck shaft is there. I am curious as to what capacity vessel the topsides can handle. The shaft appears to be factory installed.

My vessel is requiring mostly above water line refit, cept for the broken shaft strut :( , which will be a completely different thread ha

On that boat 11' would be big, not only for fit but how it might affect handling. The davit being removed would concern me and leave me checking the deck integrity very closely, especially around where the davit came through the deck and also where the cradles would sit.

I can get a micro skiff that weighs approx 250#, I "thnk" that wouldn't be an issue since the deck is made for persons to walk. As for the davit. With topside davits the deck secures are covered by a screw cap, which mine has. Simply unscrew cap ( think PVC 3" pipr cap ) and insert davit lower shaft. As with what I will fit, the davits are manual turn with electric winch or man whichever ones budget is. My curiosity is whether an Ocean owner here has one on their vessel.
FYI look at MIcro Skiffs less than 12' , some pretty kewl stuff out there to anchor out and fish some flats....

I have a 1987 Ocean 44SS with an Avon Seasport 360 mounted on the deck with a Bower Davit. By the specs the Seasport is about 700 lbs. This dink is nearly 12 feet in length and fits very well on the foredeck. Any longer would be problematic. The vessel seaworthiness is not impacted. No stress cracks or structural issues that I know of. The only issue for me is that I can not achieve spec wot RPM which could be due to that much weight on the bow, still investigating. Attached is a picture from the flybridge, excuse the clutter from a long range trip.

Very good. Awesome in fact. Im leaning toward a micro skiff due to my fishing needs. Which from dif specs 8s much less than 700. Actually is your 700 with engine? Another thing i am doing is deleting the bow rails. My boat came from factory with zero topside teak not cockpit sole decking. It was a stripped down version that is perfect for what would be underneath all that from new to now 35 years later.
Since you have ab equivalent vessel.....what prop size and best cruise speed are you achieving? Thanks for the help. Much appreciated

The spec for dink states 695 rigged so I take that to mean with motor. I use my bow rail too much for stability during fishing and other foredeck activities to remove the bow rail. I have J&T 6-71 at 485 hp, my fastest cruise is 18.5 kts at 1900 rpm and tops at 22 kts at 2200. My props are 24 x27 with from my knowledge is standard for this boat and power.

Thanks. I believe I have the same props and my Engines are the Detroit 671s. Going to be interesting to compare performance with the vessels being so close in age.
